11Another method of datanalysis
The data was processed using Microsoft Excel
A) Visual Analysis 1. Identification of the 3
regions of the plotted graph The first region
(I) ranges between t0,1 µs and t0,6 µs The
second region (II) ranges between ti0,7µs and
ts8,2µs The third region (III) ranges between
t8,3µs and t25,5µs
12Graph of events in region II, approximated by an
exponential curve
Using the equation that approximates the graph in
region II, the mean muon lifetime is
tµ1/0,46412,1547 µs.
13Graph with measured values (Ns), computed with t
obtained by us (Ncalsc-1) and computed with t
given in the bibliography (Ncalc-2)
tµ measured 1/0,48712,0529 µs tµ
computed 1/0,46412,1547 µs tµ
bibliography 1/0,45512,1973 µs
14- Observations
- A possible cause of the discrepancies between the
theoretical curve and the experimaental one is
the relatively small number of events recorded. - For some muons, after the disintegration (start)
flash, a flash could appear, due to emission of
photons in the capture of negative muons by
atoms, or the capture of electrons by the
positive muons potential energy well (formation
of muonium). This flash could be interpreted as a
false electron (stop) flash, thus altering the
effective disintegration time. - In the statistical analysis, the values with
which the calculations were made, were chosen
with a dose of bias.
