• different to CODAR.
• able to provide surface currents, surface waves
  ships/tsunami information.
• more expensive 700K,
• 10 receive antenna that need to be parallel to
  shore 50 -100m from water
• Long range 200km, 3km grid, 5 min bins
• (both lose up to 50 coverage at night)

State of Play

• 516K obtained from S.A. Govt for HF RADAR
  (release pending).
• IMOS will top up to 609K to purchase WERA if
  needed (and for deployment)
• HF RADAR will be owned by SARDI.
• will be operated installed by Mal Heron (JCU
  Aust. Coastal Ocean RADAR Network) with 0.2FTE
  contribution from SARDI/Flinders
• 10K/yr cash from SARDI/Flinders for maintenance
• 16K/yr IT in-kind from SARDI
• Installed by Feb 2008!!!

Survey Results

• Mal has surveyed Kangaroo Is and Thistle Is with
  WERA CEO.
• Cape Border and Cape de Coudic OK for WERA
• Thistle Is lighthouse not suitable inaccessible,
  not level, back scatter, no power
• Thistle Is south-west coast OK
• Will look again and also at Eyre Peninsula
