Grasping the concept

• This story is about a boy named Bud, who goes
  on a journey in search of his father. The story
  begins with Bud living in a Home. Bud is sent off
  to live with a rude family, the Amoses. After
  having to escape their shed, Bud decides to go to
  the pubic library. He wanted to visit a lady
  named Miss. Hill to see if she could help him. To
  Buds disappointment Miss. Hill had left to be
  married. Bud soon meets an old friend, Bugs, who
  invites Bud to join him on the lam. Before their
  first train arrived they had to stay at the Flint
  Hooverville. Where Bud kissed a girl named Deza
  Malone. In the morning Bugs and Bud woke up to
  people seeming surprised because the train was
  leaving. Bud was one of the few that didnt make
  it on. Bud starts to look at the flyer he
  retrieved when his mother died. Bud starts to
  believe that the man on this flyer was his
  father. So bud sets off to find a man named
  Herman E. Calloway. Along the way Bud has to hide
  in the bushes every time a car goes by. On one
  occasion a man stops the car because he sees Bud.
  Bud comes out of the bushes to meet a man named
  Lefty Lewis. Lefty Lewis is kind enough to let
  Bud come with him to meet his daughter and her
  family. Bud learns Lefty Lewiss daughters name
  was Miss. Sleet. At her house Bud gets new
  clothes and a good breakfast. Bud tells Lefty
  Lewis he is the son of Herman E. Calloway, and
  Lefty Lewis takes Bud straight there. When Bud
  walks up to the house and through the door he
  sees Herman E Calloways Band. The band didnt
  know what to think of Bud so they took him to a
  resturaunt and he met the bands singer Miss.
  Thomas. Bud stayed with the band for a little
  while until one day Bud showed Herman E. Calloway
  one of the rocks his mother had when she died.
  Herman E. Calloway was shocked and started to
  cry. Bud learned Herman E. Calloway was his
  grandfather. He finally had a good home.

The theme

• You can learn from this story to keep your dreams
  alive. We learn if we keep believing in our
  selves we might get exactly what we want.
• If you read this book you will venture into Bud
  Caldwells search for his dad. You also learn
  that things dont always work out as planned, but
  you may get more than you wanted.

What happened

• Bud is sent to the Amoses, and is treated bad.
• He leaves there to meet the librarian, but she is
  gone to be married.
• He goes to find Herman E. Calloway.
• On the way he meets a man named Lefty Lewis who
  takes him to Herman.
• Bud meets the band, and soon discovers Herman is
  his grandfather.
• The band gives him a saxophone.
• He moves in with the band.
• The End

How it looked

• At Flints Hoover Ville there was an assortment
  of items to make what looked like huts and a
  blazing warm fire in the middle. To the side
  there was a river that flowed silently. The
  fires gleam passed through the faces of kind and
  welcoming people. The huts stood a little off
  balance, but proud. They were made from
  cardboard and scavenged up material to make a
  wonderful shelter. Altogether it was a
  magnificent place to stay.

  begun in late 1929, and lasted nearly ten years.
• The Great Depression mostly started from unfair
  pay in the 1920s.
• Jazz was popular form of music in the 1920s
  and1930s.
• Layoffs from work was flowing because of the
  unbalanced money situation.
• Times were hard for many families because
  everyone was losing money. Some lost their cars
  and homes.
