7Two relevant Committees Agri-Food / Animal
Sciences, support basic and strategic research on
- Agri-Food
- The quality and safety of food materials
throughout the food supply chain, as well as the
sustainability and efficiency of processes
involved in the primary production, manufacture,
storage and distribution of food and food
ingredients - Animal Sciences
- Animal function at the level of tissues and
systems. This covers the basic and comparative
physiology and behaviour of all animals (both
vertebrates and invertebrates), including humans,
but excludes clinical research and studies of
specific human diseases.

10Food Quality and Safety (FQS) LINK Programme
- The programme will support projects aimed at
enhancing the quality and safety of both fresh
and processed foods by improving raw materials,
ingredients and, where appropriate, processing
methods. - Will probably continue for further 5 years and
incorporate enlarged nutritional remit
Stand Alone LINK
- Projects falling outside defined LINK programme
areas - Relevant to BBSRC research interests
- Meet standard criteria for LINK funding

- BBSRC only fund the academic partner
- The industrial contribution in cash or kind
- No longer 15 financial contribution. Now
assessed on the Quality of the industrial
