    characterisation of rainbow trout interferons
  • Development of nucleic acid vaccines against
    virus infections of fish

5
Funding Examples ..To Welfare and System
Development
  • Nociception in fish electrophysiological and
    behaviour analysis
  • Factors influencing the neuroendocrine responses
    to stress in trout
  • Low-stress techniques for sorting fish in
    aquaculture systems
  • Sustainable mussel cultivation an
    interdisciplinary approach
  • Halibut farming development

6
Aquaculture funding can be sought through a range
of routes
  • Responsive mode grants
  • Initiatives

    sustainability and efficiency of processes
involved in the primary production, manufacture,
storage and distribution of food and food
    ingredients
  • Animal Sciences
  • Animal function at the level of tissues and
systems. This covers the basic and comparative
physiology and behaviour of all animals (both
    vertebrates and invertebrates), including humans,
but excludes clinical research and studies of
    specific human diseases.

8
  • Move to four Grant Rounds per year from January

  • Trial of Government Partnership Awards
  • Defra / FSA contribute a 15 of cost
  • Improved funding chance at Strategy Board

9
  • Support for LINK Programmes
  • Food Quality and Safety (FQS)
  • Will probably continue for further 5 years and
    incorporate enlarged nutritional remit
  • Sustainable Livestock Production (SLP)
  • Stand Alone LINK Projects
  • Submitted to responsive mode rounds
  • Industrial Partnerships

10
Food Quality and Safety (FQS) LINK Programme
  • The programme will support projects aimed at
enhancing the quality and safety of both fresh
and processed foods by improving raw materials,
    ingredients and, where appropriate, processing
    methods.
  • Will probably continue for further 5 years and
    incorporate enlarged nutritional remit

Stand Alone LINK
  • Projects falling outside defined LINK programme
    areas
  • Relevant to BBSRC research interests
  • Meet standard criteria for LINK funding

11
  • Address any topic within BBSRC's mission
  • BBSRC only fund the academic partner
  • The industrial contribution in cash or kind
  • No longer 15 financial contribution. Now
