  • South bank of North Saskatchewan River,
    Saskatchewan Province, Canada
  • (tongue twister, eh?)
  • Site and surrounding area converted to farmland
    today
  • Tall grass prairie climate

Winter Climate
  • Characterized by blizzards and strong freezing
    winds
  • Average high 22 F
  • Average low - 2.2 F
  • Temperature has been known to drop below -
    40 F
  • Snow begins in late summer and continues until
    late spring

How to Survive the Frigid Cold
  • Close Knit Neighborhood Community
  • Warm clothing and proper planning
  • Household Construction
  • Large wood burning stove to heat rooms, sometimes
    used for sleeping on
  • Sod or thatch roof and enclosed porch around
    entrance helped keep heat in
  • Long structure attached to house containing a
    granary, storage shed, chicken house, barn, etc.
