BASIC FIRE PROCEDURE
  • SOUND THE ALARM by pulling the nearest pull
    station (or shouting Fire)

  • MEET AT OUTDOOR ASSEMBLY AREA

  • Evacuation Coordinator (RC)
  • Act as building emergency director
  • Floor Wardens (RA)
  • Check your specific floor or area and ensure
    everyone evacuates in a fire

  • Put on your vest bring evacuation clipboard
  • Coordinate the teams efforts in evacuation

  • Meet arriving responders and provide info
    regarding evacuation status and details about the
    emergency

  • Put on your vest
  • Make sure alarm is activated and call for help
  • Ensure other team members assist

  • Check your floor as you evacuate to make sure
    everyone gets out
  • Close doors (if time allows)
  • Assist persons with disabilities

  • Inform evacuation coordinator of status of your
    floor (Is it all clear of people?)
  • Inform evacuation coordinator if someone refused
    to leave or is trapped/injured in the building

SMOKE DETECTORS
  • Smoke detectors will sound only in your room
  • The smoke detector is your personal fire alarm
    that will wake you up.
  • Never cover your smoke detector with a poster or
    wall hanging

FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
  • Activated at the pull station, will sound
    throughout the building.
  • The alarm sends a signal to DPS and the Fire
    Department is summoned.
  • Any intentional activation by a resident will
    result in expulsion from USC housing.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
  • FIRE EXTINGUISHER USE
  • P- Pull the Pin
  • A- Aim the nozzle at the base of flames
  • S- Squeeze the trigger
  • S- Sweep the extinguisher from side to side
  • Tell residents never to discharge the
    extinguisher as a prank. This will activate the
    fire alarm system.

FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM
  • Most residential buildings are equipped
  • Heads are activated by heat (165 degrees or more)
    from a fire.
  • The automatic sprinkler system is the very best
    fire protection available.
  • Sprinkler heads are easily broken by a tossed
    ball or by someone hanging something from the
    head. The cost of damage is the responsibility
    of the person who damaged the sprinkler (or
    parents).

  • Dont panic and run. Take shelter under a sturdy
    table, or near an interior wall away from windows
    and heavy objects.
  • No need to go to a doorway
  • If you are outside, move to open area away from
    buildings.

  • Report injuries to DPS, but be prepared to
    provide first aid until help arrives
  • Check for residents who are stuck or trapped and
    provide assistance

  • If you receive warning of a shooter on campus
  • TAKE SHELTER
  • Close and lock doors and windows
  • Turn off lights and close window blinds/curtains
  • Stay away from windows
  • Remain inside until all clear by campus officials
