Physical Features

• Baby harp seals are all white. An adult harp seal
  has black fur on its face. An adult harp seal
  weighs 400 pounds. It can be 5.25 to 6.25 feet
  long. Their whiskers help the seals sense of
  touch.

Cold Weather Adaptations

• It has warm fur. It can have 20 breathing holes
  under water. It can stay under water for 15
  minutes. 30 of pups dont make their first year.
  Their warm coats are very valuable. Hundreds
  get killed each year by hunters and fisherman.

Food

• The harp seal eats krill and crustaceans. Their
  predators are polar bears, orcas, and people. It
  is a carnivore. That means it eats meat.

Interesting Facts

• Harp seals do not chew their food. They swallow
  their food in big chunks. Their lifespan is 30
  years. It is sometimes called a saddleback seal.
  They are related to walruses and seal lions.
