Sydney is located on the southeastern coast of
Australia in New South Wales. Sydneys absolute
location is 151 degrees east and 37 degrees
south.
3Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House has been open since 1973.
It was built by Danish architect, Jorn Utzon. Its
sitting on Bennelong Point, which reaches into
the harbor. Its structure was influenced by the
pyramids of Egypt and the Coliseum of Rome.
4 Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains covers an area of around 1436
square kilometers. The population of the Blue
Mountains in 2001 was 73,671The Blue Mountains
are not really mountains but foothills at
approximately 7210 feet.
5Climate
Spring - Sept to Nov Summer - Dec to Feb Autumn

temperature is often in the high 'teens and
sometimes very low 20's Generally arid and
semi-arid temperate in the south and east and
usually tropical in the north.
6Terrain
The terrain of Sydney is mostly low plateau with
deserts and fertile plains in the southeast
7Sydney Harbour
One of Sydneys more recognized features is the
Sydney Harbour. It flows over 20 kilometers
inland and reaches the Parramatta River. There is
a Sydney Harbour National Park where pockets of
bushland are interrupted by headlands and small
islands.
8ECONOMICS
- Sydney, Australia has the fourth largest
investment fund assets pool in the world and the
largest in Asia, valued at US518 billion at the
end of 2003. - Sydney is home to many internationally acclaimed
research centers. - Sydney enjoys expertise in informatics,
genomics, immunology, cancer research,
respiratory medicine, diagnostics, medical
devices, diverse agricultural research and
environmental biotechnology.
9Environment
Many people in the community are supporting
biodiversity by conserving their local wildlife
and ecosystems. School children are planting food
vines for the endangered Richmond Birdwing
Butterfly, farmers are poisoning foxes to
conserve the Mallee Fowl and residents are
restoring native bush in the city.
