8GENERAL TESTING CONDITIONS
- Generally plenty of moisture to get started that
continued - through heading. Then it dried out for
remainder of - season. Crop was pushed by above normal temp.
- The best sites as a group were in the West.
- Stand problems in S. Dakota sites due to
flooding or crusting.
- Good early moisture allowed very good leaf rust
and early tan spot infections.
- Dry conditions reduced or eliminated scab
infections.

20High yield combined with high protein and early
maturity
2007 UPDATE
- Improved plot performance over 2006 season.
Some very good yields were received from north
to south.
- Test weight and protein data near the top among
varieties. Also in the early maturity grouping.
- Disease ratings remain unchanged.
21High yield combined with high protein and early
maturity
Characteristics
- High yield potential
- Early maturing semi-dwarf
- High protein and test weight
- Good protection to FHB
- Very good protection to leaf and stem rust
- Very good protection to foliar diseases

23Excellent yield combined with good agronomics
2007 UPDATE
- Overall performance was lower than the past
three testing years. It was mostly above
average except in W. SD tests.
- Protein concerns under lower fertility, similar
to Faller and Traverse. Its strong straw
strength allows higher fertility management.
- Disease ratings remain unchanged. It should
respond well to fungicides.

31Characteristics
- High yield and very good test weight
- Early maturity, similar to Jagalene.
- Semidwarf height with excellent straw strength
- Resistant to the three rusts leaf, stem and
stripe.
- Winter survival similar to Jagalene.
322007 SDSU STATE TESTS
- Ranked 4th in yield among 30 varieties statewide
- Ranked 2nd to Wendy for shortest height.
332007 NDSU WW RESULTS
34White Wheat Status
- Our advanced lines are on hold.
- We are continuing industry evaluations.
- Due to recent non-developments, we are
considering reducing our white wheat effort.
However, there is still much breeding work to do
with regard to disease resistance and sprout
tolerance.
35Other Breeding Developments
- Winter wheat testing 3 locations in 2007-8.
- Expanded testing on sawfly resistant selections
in - 2008. Estimated release in 2010.
- Breeding emphasis continuing on orange wheat
- blossom midge and durums.
- Interest for extra strong mixing wheats has
dropped. We will be discontinuing future
experimentals.
- Soft red spring no takers, probably will
discontinue this work.
