Title: WORSHIPPING PROPERLY John 4:2124

1
WORSHIPPING PROPERLYJohn 421-24
  • Knowing God As Creator (Submission)
  • Knowing God As Provider (Trust)
  • Knowing God As LORD (Respect For His
    Authority)

2
FAITH BeliefTrustObedience
Hebrews 116 But without FAITH it is impossible
to please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of
those who diligently SEEK Him.
3
God Demands Respect
Exodus 1918-19 Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke
because the LORD descended upon it in fire and
its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace,
and the whole mountain quaked violently. When the
sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder,
Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder.
4
God Demands Respect
Exodus 2018-20 All the people perceived the
thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound
of the trumpet and the mountain smoking and when
the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a
distance. Then they said to Moses, let not God
speak to us, or we will die. Moses said, God
has come in order to test you, and in order that
the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you
may not sin.
5
Do Not Refuse HimHebrews 1218-25
1225 See to it that you do not refuse Him who
is speaking. For if those did not escape when
they refused him who warned them on earth, much
less will we escape who turn away from Him who
warns from heaven.
6
A Consuming FireHebrews 1228-29
Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which
cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which
we may offer to God an acceptable service with
reverence and awe for our God is a consuming
fire.
7
God Has Always Made It Crystal Clear That He
Requires Us To Worship Him HIS WAY.
1. Cain (Gen 43-5 Heb 114)
8
Genesis 43-5
Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit
of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of
the firstlings of his flock and of their fat
portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and
for his offering but for Cain and for his
offering He had no regard.
Heb. 114 By faith Abel offered to God a better
sacrifice than Cain
9
God Has Always Made It Crystal Clear That He
Requires Us To Worship Him HIS WAY.
1. Cain (Gen 45 Heb 114)
2. Nadab and Abihu (Lev 101-3)
10
Leviticus 101-3
101 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron,
took their respective firepans, and after putting
fire in them, placed incense on it and offered
strange fire before the LORD, which He had not
commanded them.
11
Exodus 308-9
There shall be perpetual incense before the LORD
throughout your generations. You shall not offer
any strange incense on this altar...
12
Exodus 3034-38
Then the LORD said to Moses, Take for yourself
spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, spices
with pure frankincense there shall be an equal
part of each. With it you shall make incense, a
perfume, the work of a perfumer, salted,
pure, and holy. You shall beat some of it very
fine, and put part of it before the testimony in
the tent of meeting where I will meet with you
it shall be most holy to you. The incense which
you shall make, you shall not make in the same
proportions for yourselves it shall be holy to
you for the LORD. Whoever shall make any like it,
to use as perfume, shall be cut off from his
people.
13
Leviticus 101-3
102-3 And fire came out from the presence of
the LORD and consumed them, and THEY DIED before
the LORD. Then Moses said to Aaron, It is what
the LORD spoke, saying, By those who come near
Me I will be treated as HOLY, and before all the
people I will be HONORED. So Aaron, therefore,
kept silent.
14
God Has Always Made It Crystal Clear That He
Requires Us To Worship Him HIS WAY.
1. Cain (Gen 45 Heb 114)
2. Nadab and Abihu (Lev 101-3)
3. King Saul (1 Sam 135-14)
15
I Samuel 138-14
138-9 Now he waited seven days, but Samuel
did not come to Gilgal and the people were
scattering from him. So Saul offered the burnt
offering
16
I Samuel 138-14
1310-12 Samuel came, and Saul went out to meet
him and to greet him. But Samuel said, What have
you done? And Saul said, Now the Philistines
will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have
not asked the favor of the LORD. So I forced
myself and offered the burnt offering.
17
I Samuel 138-14
1313-14 Samuel said to Saul, You have acted
foolishly you have not kept the commandment of
the LORD your God, which He commanded you, for
now the LORD would have established your kingdom
over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall
not endure.
18
God Has Always Made It Crystal Clear That He
Requires Us To Worship Him HIS WAY.
1. Cain (Gen 45 Heb 114)
2. Nadab and Abihu (Lev 101-3)
3. King Saul (1 Sam 135-14)
4. King Saul again! (1 Sam 153-23)
19
I Samuel 153-23
153 Now go and strike Amalek (King Agag) and
utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare
him but put to death both man and woman, child
and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.
20
I Samuel 153-23
157-9 So Saul defeated the Amalekites... But
Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of
the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and
all that was good, and were not willing to
destroy them utterly but everything despised and
worthless, that they utterly destroyed.
21
I Samuel 153-23
1513-14 Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to
him, Blessed are you of the LORD! I have carried
out the command of the LORD. But Samuel said,
What then is this bleating of the sheep in my
ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
22
I Samuel 153-23
1513-15 Saul said, They have brought them
from the Amalekites, for the people spared the
best of the sheep and oxen, TO SACRIFICE to the
LORD your God but the rest we have utterly
destroyed.
23
I Samuel 153-23
1520-21 Then Saul said to Samuel, I did obey
the voice of the LORD, and went on the mission on
which the LORD sent me, and have brought back
Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly
destroyed the Amalekites. But the people
took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the
choicest of the things devoted to destruction, to
sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal.
24
I Samuel 153-23
1522-23 Samuel said, Has the LORD as much
delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in
obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is
better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat
of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of
divination, and insubordination is as iniquity
and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word
of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being
king.
25

1. Cain (Gen 45 Heb 114)
2. Nadab and Abihu (Lev 101-3)
3. King Saul (1 Sam 135-14)
4. King Saul again! (1 Sam 1513-23)
5. King Uzziah (2 Chron 2616-20)
26
2 Chronicles 2616-21
2616 But when he became strong, his heart was
so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was
unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered
the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the
altar of incense.
27
2 Chronicles 2616-21
2617-18 Then Azariah the priest entered after
him and with him eighty priests of the LORD,
valiant men. They opposed Uzziah the king and
said to him, It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn
incense to the LORD, but for the priests, the
sons of Aaron who are consecrated to burn
incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have
been unfaithful and will have no honor from the
LORD God.
28
2 Chronicles 2616-21
2619-21 But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand
for burning incense, was enraged and while he
was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke
out on his forehead before the priests in the
house of the LORD, beside the altar of
incense... King Uzziah was a leper to the day of
his death and he lived in a separate house,
being a leper, for he was cut off from the house
of the LORD.
29
Deuteronomy 41-4
41-2 Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and
the judgments which I am teaching you to perform
You shall not ADD TO the word which I am
commanding you, nor TAKE AWAY from it, that you
may KEEP the commandments of the LORD your God
which I command you.
30
Deuteronomy 41-4
43-4 Your eyes have seen what the LORD has
done in the case of Baal-peor, for all the men
who followed Baal-peor, THE LORD YOUR GOD HAS
DESTROYED THEM from among you. But you who held
fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every
one of you.
31
Deuteronomy 1228-32
BE CAREFUL to listen to all these words which I
command you, so that it may be well with you and
your sons after you forever, for you will be
doing what is good and right in the sight of the
LORD your God Whatever I command you, you shall
be careful to do you shall not ADD TO nor TAKE
AWAY from it.
32
Proverbs 305-6
Every word of God is tested He is a shield to
those who take refuge in Him. DO NOT ADD to His
words or He will reprove you, and you will be
proved a LIAR.
33
1 Corinthians 46-7
Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively
applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so
that in us you may learn NOT TO EXCEED WHAT IS
WRITTEN, so that no one of you will become
arrogant in behalf of one against the other. For
who regards you as superior? What do you have
that you did not receive? And if you did receive
it, why do you boast as if you had not received
it?
34
1 Peter 410-11
As each one has received a gift, minister it to
one another, as good stewards of the manifold
grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak AS
THE ORACLES OF GOD. If anyone ministers, let him
do it as with the ability which God supplies,
that in all things God may be glorified through
Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the
dominion forever and ever. Amen.
35
2 John 9-11
Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the
doctrine of Christ, does not have God the one
who abides in the doctrine, he has both the
Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and
does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him
into your house, and do not give him a
greeting for the one who gives him a greeting
participates in his evil deeds.
36
Revelation 2218-19
I testify to everyone who hears the words of the
prophecy of this book If anyone ADDS to these
things, God will add to him the plagues that are
written in this book and if anyone TAKES AWAY
from the words of the book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part from the Book of Life,
from the holy city, and from the things which are
written in this book.
