Title: Antique Chic
1Antique Chic
- Antique, adj. of older times
- broken down worn out unkempt deteriorated.
- showing much wear old ragged threadbare.
- chic, a. comp. Chiquer superl. chicquest
stylish and original effective in style,
elegant clever and fashionable.
2Antique Chic
- Mismatched, soft, worn, scratched, wrinkled,
torn, sanded, and imperfect are all words
associated with the beautiful effects of Antique
Chic Designs.
3Antique Chic
- In this class, you will learn how to turn the
long established Shabby Chic interior design
styles into scrapbook techniques. - Prepare yourself to distress paper, tear photos,
and turn memories into comfortable, practical
designs straight from your heart.
4Antique Chic
- Shabby Chic is an interior design style made
popular by Rachel Ashwell, the founder and owner
of Shabby Chic home furnishing stores in
California. - Ms. Ashwell is also the author of many Shabby
Chic home decorating books. - Her design concept is based on an appreciation
for what is well used and comfortable.
5Antique Chic
- This simple interior design philosophy is
perfectly suited to scrapbooking. - Just as furniture is distressed, cardstock and
decorative papers can be torn, sanded, folded,
crumpled, and creased in Antique Chic layouts.
6Antique Chic
Printed papers can be combined and presented in
styles similar to the way fabrics are used in
chic interior decorating such as floral, plaid,
and stripe patterns in slipcovers, drapes and
over-stuffed pillows.
Scrapbooking with an Antique Chic style adopts
these familiar prints and sewing techniques and
presents papers that have been stitched, tucked,
folded, crimped, pleated, gathered and ruffled.
7Antique Chic
- Color is extremely important to both interior and
scrapbook design worlds. The interior style
features a soft, tonal color palette with liberal
use of neutrals. The aged look of grayed color
sets the worn, comfortable mood of the scrapbook
page.
8Antique Chic
- The Antique Chic design style is not something
that can be store-bought. - It is truly handcrafted. The quirky
imperfections of the design do not detract from
the completed piece instead, they become the
signature of the designer.
9Antique Chic
- Brighter and darker colors are welcome in Antique
Chic design, but they are used less frequently
and should be treated with subtlety, used
together, or made to appear as if they have faded
somewhat over time.
10Antique Chic
- The best part of this design philosophy is that
anything and everything works and will
effortlessly fall into place! So, lets get
started..
11Antique Chic
- Place the Nostalgiques Rule of Thumb ruler
sticker at an angle on the top left corner of the
Laura Ashley Tana Stripe paper.
12Antique Chic
- Place the Nostalgiques Floral Delight stickers
on the lower third of the Tana Stripe paper so
part of the sticker is falling off the edge of
the design. - Use the Honey Bee scissors to cut off the
excess.
13Antique Chic
- Mat the Laura Ashley Florette paper on the green
cardstock, and adhere the photo mats to the
layout.
14Antique Chic
- Tear the Laura Ashley Petite Florette Vellum
square from the top right corner to the bottom
left corner. - Use your ZIG Memory System 2 Way Glue Squeeze
Roll glue pen to adhere the vellum to the
bottom right corner of the layout.
15Antique Chic
- Place the Nostalgiques Paper Button in the top
left corner of the layout, overlapping the top
mat.
16Antique Chic
- Use the Nostalgiques Stamp ABC letters to spell
out LOVE in the bottom right corner.
17Crumpling, Creasing and Folding
- Crumpling, creasing, folding whatever you call
it, the effect is definitely well-worn, old and
antique. There are two ways to achieve this
look. For a less intense appearance, try the dry
method. For a more aged look, go for the wet
method. Whichever you choose, the result will be
Antique Chic!
18Crumpling, Creasing and Folding
- Always start this process (wet or dry) with a
whole sheet of paper because distressing paper
will cause it to shrink in size. Once you have
the desired look, cut the paper to fit your
design.
19Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Dry Methods
- By Hand
- Start with any type paper or cardstock, and
crumple. Simply pretend you dont want the paper
anymore, and wad it up as if to throw it for a
two-pointer into the garbage. - After the paper is sufficiently crumpled, unfold
and flatten it with your hands. If you are not
satisfied with the amount of crinkles, simply
repeat the crumpling and flattening process until
you are happy with the results. - If you would like, you can then press the paper
with a warm, dry iron or place it between a
couple of heavy books overnight.
20Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Dry Methods
- Crimping
- Crimping is another dry method for distressing
paper. Simply put the paper through a crimping
tool over and over again, changing the angle each
time. You will create a soft, worn, textured,
paper.
21Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Dry Methods
- Empressor
- Use the Empressor to create a textured look.
Place your paper over any rough surface, and rub
the large ball of the Empressor along the top of
the paper. Just like a crayon rubbing, the rough
surface will make a textured impression on the
surface of the paper.
22Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Wet Method
- Supplies
- Spray bottle filled with water, a water faucet,
or a baking tray with a 1/2 lip filled with
water - Old towel
- Iron - if you want to use the paper the same day
23Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Wet Method
- Begin with the paper of your choice. Start with
a whole sheet because distressing paper will
cause it to shrink in size. It is best to
crumple the paper first, then cut pieces to fit
your design.
24Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Wet Method
- Either spray mist the paper with the spray
bottle, run it under the faucet, or soak it in a
baking tray of water. - However you choose, the goal is to get the paper
wet. - As you select your method, keep in mind that the
wetter the paper gets, the more pliable it
becomes, but it does take longer to dry.
25Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Wet Method
- Once the paper is wet, crumple it just like you
would in the dry method. - When the paper is wet, it is much easier to tear
and will crumple with little effort. - Spread the paper out, and analyze the creases
if there are not enough, continue the crumpling
and straightening process. - Once you are satisfied with the amount of
crumpling, begin working on some well-placed
tears and holes and distress it to your hearts
content. - Once you are satisfied with the look of your
paper, leave it to dry overnight on a towel.
26Crumpling, Creasing and Folding Wet Method
- You can take the wet process to another level and
stain the paper at the same time you are
distressing it. - Simply brew some black tea or coffee and pour it
into a baking tray or a spray bottle, then spray
or soak to distress the paper. - This process will give the paper a yellowed or
brown look that is perfect for Antique Chic
designs.
27Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- Now that you have learned how to create the look
of old, dog-eared paper, lets add another
technique that will create an aged, worn, look on
the paper in addition to the distressing.
28Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- Sandpaper and steel wool have a variety of grades
ranging from very fine or super fine to coarse
and extra coarse. - The very fine and fine grades, when rubbed over
paper, will create a soft, well-worn appearance.
- The coarse or extra coarse will create a streaked
appearance and will actually sand a hole into the
paper if enough pressure is applied.
29Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- You can find sandpaper in any home improvement
store. - You can also look for sanding tools adhered to a
foam core base. Fingernail files are a perfect
example of this style of sanding tool and can
easily be found at the grocery store or beauty
supply store. - The foam gives a little more cushion and allows
you to get a better grip on the sanding tool than
a piece of sandpaper. - Using this knowledge as a guide, experiment on a
variety of scrap papers with different grades of
sandpaper, sanding tools and steel wool to see
what sanded effects you can create.
30Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- Sanding decorative paper will smear the print and
expose the white of the paper. - Solid color printed cardstock can also be sanded
to expose the white core. - Color Sense double-sided cardstock has different
values of color on each side - try sanding it to
expose the other value. - Experiment by sanding a variety of papers to see
what you can reveal!
31Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- As you begin to try the sanding techniques, be
sure to protect your scrapbook work surface, or
choose a different table top. The sanding
process can be messy as it generates a lot of
paper dust.
32Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- Begin sanding by going around the edge of the
paper carefully, then move to the inside
sections. - Sanding the edges first while the center is still
stiff makes this part a little easier. - Occasionally, you will wrinkle or tear the paper
as you distress it dont worry this is exactly
the effect you want the more wrinkles and tears
the better!
33Sandpaper and Steel Wool
- Unlike wood, there is no special technique to
sanding paper. - Grain does not matter with paper so you can sand
in any direction you like! - Sanding paper will create a streaked effect.
Sometimes you will want the sanded streaks to
follow one directional pattern, other times you
will want sanded streaks to be in many
directions.
34Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Focus on the edges of the paper while sanding,
and create a well-worn look then roll and pinch
the edges for a dog-eared effect.
35Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Crumple the paper first, then sand over the
wrinkles. - This gives the paper a leather-like or suede
look.
36Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Try moving the paper to the edge of the table,
and sand a little harder the edge of the table
will create a line in the sanding.
37Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Apply HERMA Vario adhesive tabs to the back of
the paper you will give a sanding effect adhere
the square in place then, sand over the HERMA
tabs and watch as their image shows through the
front this creates a fun dimensional effect!
38Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Sand right over your handwritten or
computer-generated journaling and titles for a
weathered look.
39Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Change the look of a photo by sanding it. Try to
avoid sanding over faces focus on the edges of
the photo instead. (This technique is not
recommended for photos without negatives)
40Textured Effects Created by Sanding
- Sand over stickers to create a distressed sticker
that will fit right into any Antique Chic design.
41Tearing
- Tearing is one of the easiest ways to add an
antique look to any layout. You can tear almost
any element on your page including the photos! - When tearing paper, you can tear down the length
or width, or you can even tear pieces off a
larger sheet. - Any way you do it, tearing is just right for an
Antique Chic look.
42Tearing
- Depending on the paper you can usually, tear it
towards your body to expose a rough or white
edge. - Tear away from your body to get a clean edge.
- Tearing Color Sense cardstock toward your body
will reveal a tinted or shaded edge. - Practice tearing papers and photos to see what
kind of edges you can create.
43Tearing
- If you dont like the rough or uneven edge that
tearing creates but still want the torn look,
put your piece of paper into the Cutterpede
straight edge trimmer, and use the arm of the
cutter as a straight edge to make a clean,
straight torn edge.
44Tearing
- Place the piece of paper into the Cutterpede
with the length you desire extending to the right
of the measuring arm. - Firmly hold the remaining paper to the left of
the arm in your left hand. - With your right hand, hold the arm of the
Cutterpede firmly in place. - Tear the paper toward your body with your left
hand.
45Tearing
- If you would prefer not to tear at all but still
desire a look, use your Cutter Bee scissors. - Cut the piece of paper to the desired size, then
open your Cutter Bee scissors and rub a single
blade carefully along the edge of the paper. - This technique will distress the edge of a piece
of paper without tearing.
46Rolling
- While we are focused on the edges, lets add a
roll. Rolls can be added to any edge, straight
or distressed. - Water is the magic ingredient that makes rolling
paper a cinch. - If the paper is torn, simply run a Brush H2O
down the edge to get the paper damp not wet.
Then roll the edge between your fingers.
47Rolling
- If you are starting with a straight edge,
randomly cut ¼ snips into the edge of the paper,
then run the Brush H2O down the edge of the
paper to make it damp, then roll the sections
between your fingers.
48Chalking and Inking
- The aging process never ends! We began with
crumpling, then sanding and tearing now we will
smear chalk and ink on the paper to achieve the
antique look.
49Chalking and Inking
- Chalklets will add a soft, dusty look to a
design. Use a Chalklets Clip, your fingers,
cotton swab or cotton ball to apply chalk along
the torn, rolled or straight edges of paper. - The application of chalk will add dimension to
the edge almost as if you have created a
shadow.
50Chalking and Inking
- Rub chalk on the surface of paper that has been
crumpled or distressed with sandpaper or steel
wool. - The chalk will fall into the cracks and crevices
to create depth in the texture. - Age journaling, titles and papers by dusting them
with chalk. - The Antique Chic look is all about age and
character obtain the right look for your pages
by adding chalk to the design elements.
51Chalking and Inking
- Ink, in small amounts, will create a highlight
in large amounts, ink can unify design elements.
There are many ways to add ink to paper.
52Chalking and Inking
- Sponging Using the brush tip of the ZIG Memory
System Brushables marker, brush ink onto a
makeup sponge, then dab ink onto paper. Change
the position of the sponge frequently to obtain a
random print pattern. This method can also be
used to smear ink onto paper for an aged look.
53Chalking and Inking
- Direct to Paper Press an inkpad directly onto
paper. Apply light to heavy pressure to
determine the amount of ink coverage. Inkpads
with a fabric surface will stamp a linen look
onto the paper while ones with a sponge surface
will stamp a sponged look onto the paper.
54Chalking and Inking
- Fingers Apply ink onto your fingertips, and
smear ink on the paper. Randomly press a clean
fingerprint to the paper for that real handmade
look.
55Chalking and Inking
- Brush Marker Gently run the brush tip of a ZIG
Memory System Brushables marker along the torn
edge of paper or photo. This method will
highlight the papers edge. For a stronger look
(like the burned edge of a map) draw down the
edge of the paper or photo with the brush tip.
56Chalking and Inking
- Rubber Stamp Apply ink to a stamp, and create a
background by randomly stamping an image. Also
try stamping a patterned image right on top of a
patterned paper.
57Lettering
- The Antique Chic style calls for vintage
typewriter fonts and lots of handwritten
personalization. If you have ever worried that
your handwriting is not legible, then this is the
style for you the more realistic your
handwriting the better!
58Lettering
- Antique Chic layouts feature lots of mixing and
matching. This means you can use up all those
stray letter stickers. Anything goes here the
more unique the lettering styles are, the more
personality your project will have! - Some great products to try are
- Nostalgiques letter stickers by Rebecca Sower
- Inspirables Metal, Leather, and Stone
dimensional stickers - Tag Types letter stickers
59Adornaments Fibers
- Antique Chic style is enhanced with elements that
add layers, texture and elegance in a casual
manner. - Adornaments fibers are a perfect addition to any
Antique Chic layout because they add movement,
color and form with a gentle, vintage appeal. - Try not to skimp on fibers as an inadequate
length can detract from the elegance of the
adorned page element.
60Adornaments Fibers
- Drape, tie, lace, or wrap fibers throughout your
Antique Chic layouts using some of the following
methods - Create a layered photo mat with torn and rolled
edges. Complete the look of the mat by tying
fibers around the photo, mat and all! - For an unstructured, effortless look, drape
fibers around the whole of the design. - The simplicity of fibers laced through eyelets or
holes is an elegant touch for any photo mat or
journaling box. - Add beads, button and charms to fibers wrapped
around page elements.
61Treasures and Details
- Antique Chic decoration avoids clutter and
nicknacks, but embraces function and
practicality. - When selecting embellishments for your scrapbook
page, consider how they will add to the theme of
the design and unify the page. - Look for embellishments with function as in
staples, buttons, envelopes and paper clips. - Add sewing items such as fabric, fringe, tassels,
lace, snap strips, zippers, T-pins, twill tape
and ribbon. - Rummage through yard sales and flea markets for
old jewelry and ephemera to add to your
scrapbooks. - As you choose your embellishments, stick to the
Antique Chic philosophy of less-is-more.
62Treasures and Details
63Treasures and Details
- Tear about ½ off the bottom of the 3 ½ x 6
green cardstock rectangle.
64Treasures and Details
- Tear about 1 off the bottom of the 3 ½ x 6
Laura Ashley Florette paper. - Age the paper by crumpling by hand and flattening
it. - Use sandpaper and brown Chalklets to distress
the paper.
65Treasures and Details
- Adhere the Florette paper to the green cardstock.
- Use your Cutter Bee scissors to form a tag by
cutting the two top corners off the large matted
rectangle.
66Treasures and Details
- Tear the top and bottom of the 3 x 6 Laura
Ashley Sycamore rectangle. - Adhere the torn rectangle to the middle of the
tag. - Wrap the extra paper around the tag, and adhere
it to the backside of the tag.
67Treasures and Details
- Place the Phrase Café Classic sticker The
Journey on top of the Sycamore torn rectangle.
68Treasures and Details
- Use a Paper Shapers Tiny 3/16 circle punch to
make a hole in the top of the tag. Place a
Nostalgiques Epoxy Donut embellishment over the
hole.
69Treasures and Details
- Embellish the tag, tie the green Adornaments,
fiber through the hole.
70Treasures and Details
- Place the Jolees Boutique Leatherettes Vintage
Luggage embellishments to the bottom right corner
of tag.
71Treasures and Details
- Clip the Nostalgiques Paper Clip, to the top
left side of the title.
72Sewing
- Since we are raiding our sewing supplies, we
might as well break out the machine! - Sewing on a scrapbook page does not have to be
fancy nor does it require extraordinary amounts
of sewing knowledge. - All you need to know is how to thread the machine
and switch between a straight stitch and a zigzag
stitch.
73Sewing
- Using the sewing machine, you can sew lace,
zippers, fibers, twill tape, paper and more. - Set your machine for a slightly longer and wider
stitch if you sew with a short, narrow stitch,
you will perforate the paper to the point that it
will simply fall apart. - Use a whole sheet of paper as the foundation, and
sew away!
74Sewing
- Sew lace or ribbon over the seam where two pieces
of color blocked papers intersect. - Use a zigzag stitch to sew a border to a layout.
- Attach photos to a layout by stitching them into
the design. - Stitch words of a title on a page.
- Sew a variety of scraps to a foundation sheet of
paper to resemble a crazy quilt.
75Sewing
- However you decide to incorporate sewing into
your design, be sure that you consider the
placement of the sewn objects. - Sew all of your objects first, then adhere the
rest of the page elements on the design. - Sewing adds a fun layer to Antique Chic with
little to no effort on the designers part give
it a try!
76The Antique Chic Layout
- When creating an Antique Chic layout, follow the
less-is-more philosophy of design. In which order
and balance of mismatched elements creates an
organized chaos. - Allow negative space to serve as a guide, and
leave ample space around large or important page
elements. - This gives the design a more open feel and
prevents the jumbled look of clutter on clutter.
77The Antique Chic Layout
- Begin planning your scrapbook page with photos
and stories as the inspiration. - Antique Chic designs can be created with color
photos, however black white or sepia tone
pictures blend best. Treat yourself to a roll of
black white C41 film, develop it with full
color processing for gorgeous sepia tone photos
or have it sent away for true black white
developing.
If you have access to digital photos and
software, then you can print your photos in black
white or sepia tones. Either way, you will
love the change from color photos, and your
Antique Chic designs will have an authentic look.
78The Antique Chic Layout
- Prints, patterns and papers are the heart of the
Antique Chic style. - When selecting papers stay with papers that
complement one another. - Look for a common theme such as color, pattern,
or texture this will unite the different paper
choices and create a harmonious look. - Dont be afraid to experiment and combine
multiple patterns and textures on a page. - Unexpected pairings and stark contrasts can add
life and whimsy to what might otherwise have been
a predictable design.
79The Antique Chic Layout
- In this class, we are using the Laura Ashley
collection of papers because they embrace the
characteristics of Antique Chic designs with
great florals, stripes and plaids. - There are four color stories in the Laura Ashley
collection burgundy, purple, pink and blue. - Each story has a selection of cardstock,
decorative papers and vellum that are perfect for
Antique Chic designs.
80The Antique Chic Layout
81The Antique Chic Layout
- Age the four 2 ¾ x 3 squares of Laura Ashley
pink patterned papers by crumpling them by hand
and then flattening them. - Use the brown Chalklets to distress the paper.
- Adhere the four squares in the center of the 6 x
6 green cardstock square.
82The Antique Chic Layout
- Tear the edge of the two 2 x 5 ¾ Laura Ashley
pink patterned paper strips. - Add detail to the torn edge of the paper with a
ZIG Memory System Pure Brown Writer by running
the bullet tip over the torn edge. - Adhere the paper strips so that the plaid is
overlapping the floral.
83The Antique Chic Layout
- Place the Nostalgiques Floral Delight stickers
on the layout. Refer to project sample for
placement.
84The Antique Chic Layout
- Mat the Laura Ashley Pink/Green Colourwash
rectangles to the corresponding green cardstock
rectangles adhere the photo mats to the layout.
85The Antique Chic Layout
- Use the Honey Bee scissors to cut the word for
off the Phrase Café Classic for my friend
sticker place the phrase on the lower part of
the bottom pink mat. - Place the Phrase Café Classic sticker, Side by
side or miles apart, friends are always close to
the heart on the side border of the layout.
Refer to project sample for placement.
86The Antique Chic Layout
- Place the Nostalgiques Gems Vintage Buttons on
the layout to complete the Antique Chic look.
Refer to project sample for placement.
87Layering
- The key to achieving an Antique Chic look is
layering. - Create visual depth in your designs with
contrasting or complementary layers of color and
patterns. - Layers can be created in the background of a
design or in the page elements. The focus photo
will benefit from this extra treatment. Use torn
and rolled edges and 3D-Dots foam adhesive to
frame the most important element of the page. - Layering gives scrapbook pages a pleasing visual
and tactile impact.
88Layering
89Layering
- Age the Laura Ashley Strawberry Fields paper by
crumpling the paper by hand and then flattening
it. Use sandpaper to sand off some of the paper
print, and distress it with brown Chalklets. - Adhere the aged 6 x 6 patterned paper to the
green cardstock.
90Layering
- Tear approximately 2 off the Laura Ashley
Sycamore paper. Add detail to the torn edge by
using a ZIG Memory System Pure Violet Writer.
- Age the paper by crumpling the paper by hand and
then flattening it. Use sandpaper and Chalklets
to distress the pattern paper. - Adhere the distressed Laura Ashley Sycamore paper
to the layout.
91Layering
- Tear approximately 3 ½ off the Laura Ashley
Vineyard paper. Follow the aging process in Step
3. - Adhere the Laura Ashley Vineyard paper to the
bottom of the layout.
92Layering
- Adhere the Architexture Art Nouveau Stone Square
Frame on the 2 purple cardstock square. - Use the Honey Bee scissors to cut the Phrase
Café Classic my love in two place in the
middle of the frame. - Shadow with a little brown Chalklets.
93Layering
- Put the purple and green Adornaments fibers
together, and fold in half. Tie the fibers
together in a knot. - Use adhesive to adhere the fibers to the back of
the frame, then adhere the frame and fibers to
the left side of the layout. - Place a purple Button Ups embellishment on to
the top of the fibers.
94Layering
- Use purple Chalklets to shadow the 3 x 4 purple
cardstock, and mat it on the green cardstock.
Adhere to the right side of the layout. - For a final touch, place the Architexture Stone
Accents embellishment in the bottom right corner
of the mat adhere the Phrase Café Classic
forever on the lower right side of the mat.
95Movement Through Blending
- The Antique Chic style creates movement through
blending. Soft-tonal colors blend through the
use of monochromatic and analogous color
combinations. - Neutrals serve to offer comfortable resting space
between page elements. Layers are built without
sharp edges.
96Movement Through Blending
- Try adding a layer of vellum over a page to
soften a bold background. A piece of colored
vellum over a background paper can help blend the
entire design. Visually blend photographs and
page elements through seamless coordination.
97Movement Through Blending
- Often, the edges of photos are torn in order to
be incorporated into the design. The distressed
photo blends nicely into the layout and
encourages the readers eye to move throughout
the page. - The antique design concept creates a comfortable,
gentle movement between all page elements, colors
and textures with the end result being a fully
unified scrapbook page.
98Movement Through Blending
99Movement Through Blending
- Age the 6 x 6 Laura Ashley Darcy paper by
crumpling the paper by hand and then flattening
it. Distress the paper with brown Chalklets. - Adhere the patterned paper to the 6 x 6 white
cardstock.
100Movement Through Blending
- Tear both sides of the Laura Ashley Blue/Green
Colourwash paper to 2 x 5 ¾. Use a ZIG Memory
System Pure Blue Writer to add detail to the
torn edge.
101Movement Through Blending
- Use your Cuterpede straight edge trimmer to cut
a 1 ¾ x 5 ¾ strip of paper from the Laura
Ashley Blue Stripes paper, centering the stripe
in the strip.
Place the right thin stripe under the ½ mark on
the Cutterpede ruler.
102Movement Through Blending
- Place the Laura Ashley Mayhill Flowers vellum
over the Blue Stripes strip, positioning the
floral stripe over the blue stripe. Tear the
vellum to fit using the Cutterpede tearing
method we just learned. - Adhere the vellum to the Blue Stripes paper, and
then mat on the blue side of the Blue/Green
Colourwash strip. - Adhere the matted border to the left side of the
layout.
103Movement Through Blending

106Movement Through Blending
- To finish, place a Jolees Boutique Blue Jeweled
Flower on an Architexture Glass Round Tile
embellishment, and adhere it at the bottom of the
border. Refer to project sample for placement.
107Antique Chic Philosophy
- Creating Antique Chic designs focuses on the
less-is-more philosophy of scrapbooking. - Select plaid, striped and floral papers from a
palette of tones to create a well-blended
background.
108Antique Chic Philosophy
- Choose photos that have a similar theme. Have
them developed in sepia or black white to add
to the authentic distressed theme of the layout.
109Antique Chic Philosophy
- As the design is building, be sure to add lots of
layers through the use of multiple prints and
colors dont forget to add in a layer of
vellum, too!
110Antique Chic Philosophy
- Be sure to distress everything. Break out your
sandpaper and steel wool. This is a time when
having water on the table while scrapbooking is
completely appropriate. Get things wet, and
create a well worn element for your page.
111Antique Chic Philosophy
- Instead of always having perfectly straight
lines, simply tear paper, stickers and
photographs. Take your entire design to the
sewing machine, and tack everything in place for
a change. Then take a step back, and look at
what you have created.
112Antique Chic Philosophy
- The best part about creating an Antique Chic
design is that there is no right or wrong
everything works. - You will be amazed and delighted to see your
scrapbook style come through in your very own
Antique Chic design.
