Whos Afraid of Bats?
1. When night came, the three friends sat in
darkness. 2. Jill began to tell a scary story
about bats. Her friends were afraid. 3. Trudy
was so afraid that she put her hands over her
nose and mouth and held her breath. 4. Sam
stopped Jill and said that bats help people by
eating insects that kill farmers crops, which
provide food we eat. 5. Then he told his friends
about a famous man who likes to study bats, so he
can learn all about them. 6. He found out that
people cover bat caves with gates to keep people
out.

Pets and Wild Animals
All animals have a home. Most pest live in
houses with people. Wild animals live in trees,
caves, under water, or almost anywhere else you
can think of. Some snakes live under rocks! All
animals need to eat. Pets are given food by
their keepers, but wild animals eat plants or
search for food. Pets are friendly and like to
live with people. Animals that live in the wild
are afraid of people and want to stay away from
them. All animals need us to be nice to them and
protect them.

Addies Day

• Last night Addie was reading about bats, and she
  stayed awake later than she usually does. Now
  she is yawning . She would like to go to bed.
• Addie loves to read about bats. She smiles when
  she talks about them. She finds out about the
  special cave where bats live.
• While Addie waits at the bus stop, a boy runs up
  just as a bus is pulling away. He looks worried
  . He keeps looking at his watch and looking up
  the street to see if another bus is coming.

  mouse.

  world, though.
• The hog-nosed bat is even small__ than the little
  brown bat.

  you are now if there were other people over a

Charlie the Bat
One morning Charlie the bat went hunting with
his family. They went to the tiny lake where all
the bugs lived. It was so hot out that the lake
had frozen. His father caught a little moth for
him, Charlie couldnt eat the whole thing. He
wanted to find some dried up flies. Flies are
his favorite meal. They were pretty but they
tasted good. He especially hated horse flies.
He would eat as few as he could, as slowly as he
could. They tasted terrible!!
