at the corner of Baronne and Common Streets.

Jesuit High School
  • The high school remained on Baronne Street until
1926, when it was moved to its current location
at 4133 Banks Street in Mid-City.
  • Over 80 years of graduations from Carrolton and
Banks has given Jesuit a respected name when
parents look where to send their children.

The Seal of Jesuit High School
6
The Seal of Jesuit High School The 6 Features
  • The star symbolizes the Immaculate Conception.
  • The school's colors are blue and white to honor
the Virgin Mary, which led to the "Blue Jay"
mascot. Student athletes wore a white sweater
with a blue letter "J" on it and they were
referred to as the "Blue J's".
  • The Pelican is on the Seal for it was once near
extinction, but has thrived in the area and is
    the official state bird.
  • The Wolves and the Pot was taken from the coat of
arms of Ignatius Loyola, who was the founder
of the Society of Jesus, which simply became
    known as the Jesuits.
  • A.M.D.G. is the motto of the Society of Jesus
(S.J.) -- Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam -- for the
    greater glory of God.
  • The Old English J stands for Jesuit High
    School.

Common and Baronne
  • The photo of Jesuit School above was taken in
about 1925, when the school was located on the
corner of Common and Baronne Streets.  This
building was demolished to make way for the Pere
    Marquette Building later that year.

    undefeated regular season.
  • Jesuit Swimming holds the LHSAA record for most
consecutive state championships in any sport,
with 18 straight. The streak was broken in 2005,
when the team, still feeling the effects of
Hurricane Katrina, was only able to field 12
swimmers, yet still managed to come in second
place, only a few points out of first. In 2006,
however, the team was able to recapture the state
    championship.
