OBJECTIVES
  • To propose the SAGPyA the planning of research
    programs and projects referred to fishery
    resources, dealing with their execution and
    control, and tending towards their optimal
    utilization and sustainable economical
    exploitation.
  • To plan and execute research on the improvement
    and development of catch systems, fishing gear ,
    and their selectivity.
  • To deal with research relative to technology
    processes leading to a better use of fishery
    resources.
  • To develop and/or adapt cultivation technologies
    for commercial aquatic organisms.

    corresponding authorities on fishery resource
    management and conservation.
  • To direct research and provide technical-scientifi

PELAGIC FISHERIES AND ENVIRONMENT
  • Coordination Mission and Functions
  • To conduct the necessary investigations to
    evaluate the state of pelagic fish and
    invertebrate populations of commercial
    importance, managed either by this country or
    shared with other countries.
  • To provide technical-scientific assessment to the
    corresponding authorities on fishery resource
    management and conservation.
  • To conduct investigations on natural and man-made
    modifications and their effects on fishery
    resources.
  • To study the marine environment and its relation
    to distribution, abundance and fluctuation of
    fishery stocks.

INFORMATION, OPERATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY
  • Coordination Mission and Functions
  • To direct development and transfer of catch ,
    processing and cultivation technologies of
    aquatic organism of commercial interest, tending
    to the rational exploitation of fishery
    resources.
  • To direct research in fisheries economics,
    applied mathematics and statistics related to
    fisheries management.
  • To administrate the computer system of the
    research area and the documentation, fishery and
    environmental information systems generated by
    the Institute and auxiliary research services.
  • To cooperate in the manufacture of the research
    cruise schedule and coordinate the acquisition,
    use and maintenance of the exclusive scientific
    instrumentation of the FRVs.
