General Information
  • Tajikistan is inland country
  • 93 of territory occupied by mountain
  • Population 7.0 millions
  • 70 of population live in rural location
  • Forest is 3 of territory
  • Tajikistan has luxuriant fauna on rather small
    territory (14,3 mil he)
  • A total amount of wildlife achieves 8.5 thousand
    species.

Variety of wildlife and wildlife resources
  • 84 species of mammal
  • 365 species of birds
  • 49 species of reptiles
  • 7-8 thousand species of insects.
  • In low lands the hot deserts submitted -the grey
    monitor lizard, a cobra, an arrow-snake, a beauty
    bustard, a spotty cat, a leopard, the fox, and
    etc.

    deer, a cane cat, the jackal, Vipera lebetina,
    the golden pheasant, swans, a striped hyena, etc
  • The low mountain zone (500-1000 m) -a steppe

    tolai, a gopher, a fox, etc.
  • The middle mountain zone (1000-2500 m)-a bear,
    the fox, the wolf, snow leopard, Siberian ibex, a
    mouflon, Capra falconeri, etc.

    Tetraogallos, Tibetan Syrrhaptes, Himalayan
    Mergus, an Indian goose, a red duck, brown-headed

Current situation in Tajikistan
  • Amateur and professional hunting on the territory
    of the Republic of Tajikistan is allowed in
    specified period (depending on species). Amateur
    hunters are allowed to hunt wild animals and
    birds under licenses.
  • Actions which can lead to death, reduction of
    numbers of violation of the habitat of the rare
    and endangered animal species are prohibited.

  • The government in the field of protection and
    use of fauna is carried out by the Government
  • Specially authorized state body on protection and
    regulation of use of fauna is State Committee of
    Environmental Protection and Forestry R
  • Objects of fauna are in charge of local Majlisis
    of People's Deputies.
  • Terms of realization of separate kinds of using
    objects of fauna are established by the
    legislation.
  • Possession and using objects of fauna in the
    Republics of Tajikistans is paid.
  • The order and specifications of a payment and
    using objects of fauna are established by the
    Government

    protected territories

    attention to restoration of the preserve and to
    organization of new specially protected
    territories

    sphere of animal world and hunting
  • Providing Technical assistance to specially
    protected territories
  • Establishing of a center training and re-training
    of specialists

TECHNICAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME
  • Establishing of the nursery for Bukhara Deer
  • Creation of the three nurseries for breeding and
    expansion of the three subspecies of Pheasant
  • Initiation of international reserve (Tajikistan,
    Afghanistan, China and Pakistan)
  • Territorial expansion of Dashtijum reserve by
    joining it with neighboring Dashtijum sanctuary.
    It allows stabilizing the situation of the
    Markhor population
  • To grant the status of reserve for habitats area
    of Bustard
