2Why Latin Fest?
In September 1968, Congress authorized
President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim
National Hispanic Heritage Week. The observance
was expanded in 1988 to a month long celebration
(September 15 October 15). America celebrates
the culture and traditions of U.S. residents
who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the
Spanish speaking nations of Central America,
South America and the Caribbean. Sept. 15 was
chosen as the starting point for the celebration
because it is the anniversary of independence of
five Latin American countries Costa Rica, El
Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In
addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their
independence days on September 16 and September
18, respectively. The Population of Lee County
is 571,344 Residents 16.1 of the population
(91,705 residents) of Lee County are Hispanic.

4The Shell Factory has a 70 year history in Lee
County as a landmark attraction. In 1997
Commercial Real Estate Developer Tom Cronin, Sr.
with his company, Flordeco purchased the failing
attraction from foreclosure. Since then our
visionary has spent over nine million dollars and
countless human resources bringing the grand old
lady back to her former glory days. Tom created
a place at The Shell Factory to house an
assortment amazing animals, birds, reptiles and
fish called The Nature Park. One of the many
goals of the Park is to educate future
generations about the importance of caring for
our global home. The EcoLab is the vehicle we
have developed to help accomplish this mission.
The activities in this fun-filled and educational
collection will change regularly so that each
visit is a new experience. By choosing to
support The Nature Parks endeavors, the ultimate
benefit is an investment in the future of the
earth and its animal inhabitants. Every dollar
and every donation of time enables the Nature
Park and EcoLab to continue this important
conservation work. Your gift is critical in
feeding the animals, building and maintaining
their habitats and creating awareness for the
programs. An enormous amount of work and
planning goes into several large events, which
the Shell Factory and Nature Park produce
annually. The gate proceeds from this event will
be donated to the Nature Park Environmental
Education Foundation, Inc. This 501c3
corporation which supplies funding for
transportation to the Lee County School System.
Which due to restricted budgets has had to cancel
the majority of field trips for children.
5Hispanic Chamber has Agreed to Chair Media and
Fund-raise for their Education Foundation
The Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce presents over 20 scholarships of
varying amounts on an annual basis to outstanding
youth in the Southwest Florida area. For this, we
seek assistance from universities and
organizations to help us to continue providing
educational opportunities to these deserving
young men and women. As we have presented
previously, the Hispanic population in Florida
grows exponentially every year. This population
growth is especially noticeable in Southwest
Florida. Additionally, Southwest Florida is one
of the most adversely affected regions due to the
nationwide economic downturn. This creates one or
more barriers towards the goal of a college
education for our Hispanic youth. These
scholarship are presented in the organization's
name at our Annual International Gala, which is
to be held this year on Saturday, May 30th, 2009.
In addition to helping our future leaders, this
increases the companies' exposure in a positive
way throughout our Community and they receive
recognition through local Hispanic and
mainstream media.
6Intangible Benefits of Participation
Prestige of Property Number One Attraction
(approximate annual attendance 720,000) on
the Lee Island Coast. Recognizability of
Property Located in North Fort Myers, the
landmark attraction has been a beacon to
visitors since 1937. Level of Visitor
Loyalty A survey conducted in December of 2006
concluded that 63.3 of visitors to The Shell
Factory and Nature Park were return
customers, 49.3 heard about the attraction from
a friend or relative. Newsworthiness Hispanic
Heritage Month has gained immense popularity due
to the expanding Latin population country
wide. The help of the Hispanic Chamber and
support of Hispanic and traditional media will
allow this event to become the preeminent Latin
Festival for this area.
An enormous amount of work and planning goes into
several large events, which the Shell Factory
and Nature Park produces annually. The gate
proceeds from this event will be donated to the
Nature Park Environmental Education Foundation,
Inc. This 501c3 corporation (among other
environmental related services) supplies funding
for transportation to the Lee County School
System. Which due to restricted budgets has had
to cancel the majority of field trips for
children.
