Summary of the Problem

• Consulted by a 4-H member from Wisconsin.
• Desire to breed his ewes for the fall lambing so
  that the ram lambs would be worth more.
• Goal To synchronize the estrous of ewes and
  induce out-of-season breeding for fall lambing.
• Drugs CIDR Progesterone Insert,
  PG600(eCG/PMSGhCG).

Drug Treatment Regime

• Day 0 Day 12 Day 14
• Insert CIDR Remove CIDR
  Natural mating or (Progesterone)
  Inject 400IU eCG inseminate at 44-48
  (PG600) hours after
  insert removal
• Lambing will occur 148 days after mating or
  insemination.

Influencing Factors

• Fertility is affected by breed, class, age,
  weight of the ewe, month of treatment, ram
  selection, and management.
• Ewe's follow a seasonal polyestrous with a 5.5
  months gestational length. Mating happens in the
  fall with the intent of delivering in the spring.
• The drug regime will not work if the ewe is
  already pregnant when inserted. Also, estrous
  response rate should exceed 95 percent.

Why this Drug Regime?

• Study have shown that using CIDR resulted in gt95
  synchronization, the highest in comparison to any
  other technique.
• Success can be determined by
• Ultrasound
• Watching for signs of estrus
• Pregnancy

Labor Needs

• A Veterinary doctor for ultrasonography (USG) and
  health care of ewes and rams.
• During parturition as there may be multiple lambs
  because of the PG600.
• The 4-H member has younger siblings to take care
  of the lambing during the week.

Conclusion

• The efficient use of EAZI-BREED CIDRTM with
  proper management and care will allow this 4-H
  members flock to lamb in fall season.
