16Traditions
- Howdy!
- The official greeting at Texas AM, making it
the friendliest place in the world. Students
love to extend a warm howdy to visitors and
friends alike.
- GigEm
- The thumbs up symbol originated with Pinkie
Downs 1906. In a game at TCU, he wanted to gig
the Horned Frogs. Thus, it has become a sign of
encouragement and motivation.
17Traditions
- Aggie Ring
- One of the greatest moments in the life of any
Aggie is the day that they receive their Aggie
Ring, which is rich in symbolism, tradition and
memories. Each of the symbols and designs
engraved in the ring represent some aspect of
Texas AM.
18Traditions
- Muster
- Each year on April 21st the Aggie Muster
ceremony is observed around the world. A roll
call for the absent honors Aggies who have
passed away during the previous year. A friend
answers here for the departed and a candle is
lit in their honor. Aggie Muster shows the
continuing Aggie spirit.
19Traditions
- 12th Man
- January 1922, AM played in the Dixie Classic
football game, which produced many injuries that
Coach Dana X Bible was afraid he would not have
enough players. So, he went up to the stands and
called out E. King Gill to suit out. Gill stood
on the sidelines, the 12th man, ready to go into
the game. Thus, every student stands throughout
the football games symbolizing their loyalty and
readiness to enter the game if needed.
