2The Texas Motto is Friendship. The state name,
Texas, originated from the Caddo Indian word,
Teysha or Tejas which means Hello, Friend.

7Texas State Tree
- Texans adopted the pecan as their state tree
way back in 1919. Perhaps they favored the pecan
because Governor James Hogg requested that a
pecan be planted by his gravesite. Of course,
pecans are also popular because their nuts taste
so good.
8Texas State Bird
Mockingbirds are medium sized birds, gray above
and pale below. They have white wing patches and
outer tail feathers, slender black beaks and
legs. Legend has it when Texas chose the
mockingbird as its state bird, the resolution
stated that the bird is "a fighter for the
protection of his home, falling, if need be, in
its defense, like any true Texan..."
Mockingbirds are found in just about every
habitat type in the state.
9The Alamo
The Texas state shrine is the Alamo. The Alamo
is located in San Antonio, Texas.
