  • Because of post WWI and WWII births

  • New or young families need to make money (push
    and pull)

  • Comparatively speaking, Italian born and
    Italian-Americans make the same amount of money
    as the average American does.
  • The reason is because the assimilation is almost
    seamless for the Italians so they have equal
    opportunities that lead to similar income.

Becoming Italian-American
  • First mass migration in 1870 mainly young
    fathers and husbands.
  • Many families came in 1910 to make money.
  • Most came in post-WWI and WWII era.
  • Family-based Italian lifestyle fits in with
    mainstream American society.
  • 2nd generation was ½ Italian and ½ American
    (in culture) Thus, Italian-Americans were born.
