3William G. Morgan
- William G. Morgan was born in 1870. He grew up in
New York and had a strong Christian faith. He
attended grade school, as well as high school,
and later years grew up to go to YMCA(Young Mens
Christian Association) in Springfield.
4- In college William met some very interesting
people. One of which was James Naismith. They
were great friends. Then in 1891 James invented
basketball. William was transferred to the Auburn
YMCA after finishing his years of college to
become a physical education teacher. His job as a
teacher was to find stimulating games for the men
to play.
5- As William got used to him job he quickly found
out what they meant by stimulating games. Some of
the most well known games were created at that
college. One of which was volleyball. This wasn't
Williams first he had made up. The other ones
just didnt seem to interest anyone until
volleyball came along.
6Williams Game
- One thing that helped William think of volleyball
was tennis. He took the game of tennis and molded
it into his own. No rackets, a bigger ball, and
much higher nets. This was his idea of the game
of the game volleyball
7- After the new idea of volleyball was out in the
open more and more people began to like the idea
of it. They seemed to like the idea of a less
stimulating sport that was fun to play with the
family. Then finally on July 7, 1896 the first
official game of volleyball was played. Then in
the 1900 a new ball was designed just for the
sport. Not long after that the new sport had
spread to Canada and was being played on the
school playgrounds.
8- Now that you know the history of volleyball and
its inventor you can learn about some of the
more basics. The rules are a huge part of the
game.
