- The Tasmanian Wilderness became a UNESCO World
Heritage Site in 1982 because of its incredible
natural and cultural universal values. - The Wilderness covers about 20 of the land on
the island of Tasmania. - The site holds rocks from every geological period
and the deepest and longest caves in Australia.

4- The Wilderness is also home to a huge variety of
plant life, for which makes the site recognized
as a International Center for Plant Diversity. - As for the regions cultural heritage, it is
related to both the Aboriginal and European
occupation, within the region there are still
many signs of human occupation dating back at
least 30,000 years ago.

8CURRENCY
- Australian currency is the almost the same as
Canadian money. The bills come in fives, tens,
twenties, fifties and hundred dollar
denominations. One Australian dollar is the
equivalent to .85 cents Canadian. Banks do accept
travelers cheques, however they do take a small
commission, therefore, it is recommended that you
take cheques in major currencies. American
dollars or Euros for example. Credit cards are
accepted and there are many places with ATMs on
site.
9WEATHER
- Tasmania has a temperate, maritime climate.
Because it is surrounded by ocean it very rarely
experiences extreme temperatures. In the summer,
December to February, the days are warm and the
nights are mild. Temperatures average around 21
degrees Celsius. In the Winter, July and August,
the days are stormy and there is snow on the
mountain peaks. The average maximum temperature
is around 12 degrees Celsius. Rainfall occurs
throughout the year. - The best time to travel to Tasmania is between
February and April, the weather is most stable
from the end of summer to the autumn months.
10The flight plan
You would fly out of the Halifax International
Airport and arrive Hobart Airport, on the island
of Tasmania. The flight is quite long because
there are three stops on the way to Tasmania from
Halifax. The average time to fly to Tasmania is
approximately forty hours. The price of this trip
with a return flight included is 9, 830. 82.
There are rental cars available at the Hobart
Airport, the prices for renting a car varies, it
depends on the type of car and year you choose.
