8Spirituality System
- The connection of the individuals to God
- Drawing near to God through spiritual disciplines
9Prior to the beginning of the 1900s Christians
Have understood and practiced the Biblical
Patterns of Godliness
Because of a focus on the preaching and
the Songs Christians forgot or did not
practice Their godliness but instead waited to
be Stirred by the singing and the preaching
10Prior to the early 1900s because of the regular
practice Of the classic spiritual disciplines
Christians could be Intimate with God without a
good preacher, exciting Church, or good worship
service As we become more dependent upon others
for our Closeness with God we become weaker
Christians
11- As we become dependent upon others for our
spirituality, our churches will grow larger,
because we demand more external excellence from
our pastors - We must grow Christians who will practice the
Biblical spiritual discipline and draw near to
God on their own
12- We must develop Christians who are NOT DEPENDENT
upon the preaching pastor and/or the worship
leader for their degree of spirituality
13- 1 John 212-14
- I write unto you, little children, because
your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have
known him that is from the beginning. I write
unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the
wicked one. I write unto you, little children,
because ye have known the Father. 14 I have
written unto you, fathers, because ye have known
him that is from the beginning. I have written
unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and
the word of God abideth in you, and ye have
overcome the wicked one.
14DRAW NEAR TO GOD AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU
15You can become the intimate friend of the
Almighty
- 1 Tim. 47,8
- But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and
exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For
bodily exercise profiteth little but godliness
is profitable unto all things, having promise of
the life that now is, and of that which is to
come.
16- Christians are saved by grace through faith in
the finished work of Christ on the cross but
they must continue to SEEK THE LORD AND DRAW
NEAR TO GOD a continual searching after God is
essential for a strong and vibrant Christian life
17- Each church must develop a system that will
insure that Christians know and practice nearness
to the Lord - It is unforgivable for a church to have
Christians who do not know how to seek the Lord
on their own
18- There are approximately 26 different Biblical
disciplines for drawing near to God - These must be taught, repeated, embraced and
practiced so that meaningful connection with God
is not dependent upon a pastor or song leader
