• Once upon a time, three bunnies lived happily
  together in the forest by the river near
  Chamberlain.

• Mr. Bunny, the father, went to the market to
  find some carrots for supper.

• On his way to the market, he saw two little
  beavers swimming in the lake.

• The beavers asked Mr. Bunny, Where is Tommy?

6

• Mr. Bunny replied, He is at home picking
  berries to make blueberry pies for the Fall
  picnic.

• Oh, we were wondering if we could go over
  there and help him, said the beavers.

• Mr. Bunny said, Yea,
• sure. Just go on over there. They are in the
  forest.

• So the beavers headed over to the forest to
  see Tommy.

• Tommy
• said, Hi Max and Ben. What are you doing
  here?

• Your father said that we could come over and
  help you pick berries.

12

• Oh, I can sure use your help. Mom needs four
  buckets of blueberries to make her famous
  blueberry pies.

• Max and Ben became very hungry while they were
  picking berries.

• They decided that they could have just a few
  to tide them over until lunch.

• Then Tommy saw the hungry beavers munching on
  berries. He thought, If they can have berries,
  then so can I.

• Tommy began taking handful after handful of
  berries and stuffing them into his mouth.

• Max and Ben soon did the same.

18

• Before long, all three of them began to get
  tummy aches.

19

• Mrs. Bunny began wondering where her berries
  were to make her blueberry pies.

• She sent Tommy out into the forest over two
  hours ago.

21

• She decided to go look for Tommy and make sure
  that he was not hurt and the berries were still
  there.

• Mrs. Bunny got to the spot where Tommy
• was supposed to be picking berries.

• To her surprise, Tommy was lying on the ground
  holding his tummy.

24

• She noticed two little beavers, Max and Ben,
  were also lying on the ground holding their
  tummies.

• Mrs. Bunny walked over to the bucket to see
  how many berries they had picked.

• When she got over to where the buckets were,
  she saw that all of them were empty.

• She looked at Tommy and said, Where are my
  berries?

28

• Tommy replied with a groan, We ate them.

29

• Mrs. Bunny said, Well, I guess youre too
  sick to go to the picnic now. Oh mom. Please
  can I go?

• You, Max, and Ben need to be taught a lesson.
• I trusted you to pick berries for me to make
  my blueberry pies. Now have nothing to make pies
  with and will show up to the picnic with
  nothing.

• Mr. Bunny soon arrived home with a bushel of
  apples.

• Apples? I thought you went to get carrots.
  Yes, but these apples looked so delicious, I was
  hoping you would make some of your famous apple
  pies.

• You dont know how happy I am that you brought
  apples. Tommy and his friends got a little hungry
  and a little selfish. There are no blueberries.

• Later that evening, Mrs. Bunny went to Tommys
  room.

• You know that I am disappointed in what you,
  Max, and Ben did today. But, your father brought
  home apples and I can make pies for the picnic.
  I will let you go to the picnic tomorrow if you
  promise me that I can trust you to do what I say
  from now on.

• Tommy said, Thanks mom. Im sorry. I forgive
  you. Goodnight Tommy. Goodnight Mommy. I
  love you. And I love you too.
