Endurance (hr)
  • Estimate based on Vigilante 502 with an empty
    weight of 700 pounds
  • 4 gal /hr endurance at 30 to 40 knots
  • 5 to 6 gal/hr in cruise at 80 knots, 30 minute
    reserve

8
Demonstrated Performance
  • Initial Flight Test Program demonstrated
  • Speeds up to 50kts and altitudes up to 500 ft
    (limited by test range)
  • Ranges out to 2 miles (link margin calculations
suggest that we should be good to beyond 50 miles
LOS. However, we could not operationally fly at
greater distances anyway due to insurance/flight
    safety/airspace management issues. )
  • Over 14 hours of flight time in autonomous flight
    modes
  • Single flight of almost an hour
  • Full range of control autonomy modes
  • Mode 1 Direct command
  • Mode 2 GCS operator flight vector commands
  • Semiautonomous takeoff and landing
  • Autonomous takeoff and landing
  • Hover
  • Forward flight
  • Mode 3 Autonomous waypoint navigation
  • Mode 4 Lost link Auto recovery

Ground Control Station
  • Hardware implementation based on field-proven DDE
    design
  • Complete ground control software suite
  • flight systems controls and displays
  • data acquisition recording and file management
  • mission management tools
  • User-friendly interface permits safe employment
    by low-time operators

Mode 2 Operator Controls
  • Dual-mode stick provides the Mode 2 operator with
intuitive controls for both hover and forward
    flight.
  • Operator merely sets desired velocity, heading,
and altitude controller manages all control
activity to achieve the desired state.
  • Stick outputs are nonlinearly shaped for optimal
mix of precision control and command authority
  • Commands are position- and rate-limited to ensure
    smooth, safe operation
  • Displays provide both commanded and actual
vehicle states for good situational awareness.
