3CNRS The French National Center for Scientific
Research
- publicly-funded research organization
- 26,000 employees (among which 11,600 researchers
and 14,400 engineers and technical and
administrative staff) - 1,260 service and research units
- budget for the year 2004 2.214 billion euros
- Vocation
- producing knowledge and making it available to
society - definig new domains of scientific investigation
by developing collaboration between specialists
from different fields of expertise interactions
between physics and chemistry of living forms,
materials, biotechnologies, environment, urban
matters, health, telecommunications and
communication. - 8 scientific departments that cover all fields of
knowledge - Nuclear and Particle Physics
- Physical Sciences and Mathematics
- Communication and Information Science and
Technology STIC - Engineering Sciences, Chemical Sciences
- Earth Sciences and Astronomy, Life Sciences
- Humanities and Social Sciences.
4I3 Research Group of CNRS
- Information-Interaction-Intelligence
- One of the 5 research groups of the STIC
department of CNRS whose vocation is to mobilize
researchers on precise themes - The objectives of the group consist in
- defining and acquiring expertise on concepts,
methodologies, technics - sharing between various communities
- assembling researchers and industrialists around
projects - about 900 students, researchers and
industrialists, from more than 150 research and
development units of CNRS, INRIA and INSERM
5VERSIM Objectives
- to identify the elements common to future french
research about Modeling and Simulation and about
Computer Aided System Theory - to describe the state of the art in France
- to give the precise situation of MS french
research within the MS international research - to participate in projects and form research
networks - Fundamentally multidisciplinary group
- Accessible for any researcher from any domain
that uses or develops problem solution methods
based on simulation
6Membership
- Leaders
- Pr. Norbert Giambiasi (University of
Aix-Marseilles, France) - Pr. David Hill (University of Clermont-Ferrand,
France) - 58 registered members
- 19 scientific laboratories and DGA
7Working
- The works are realized
- both on collaboration via internet
- and on the form of meetings
- The reunions use to take place in any site in
France Marseilles, Montpellier, Toulouse,
Sophia-Antipolis, - The mean number of participants of each reunion
is 25 persons. - The frequency is about three reunions a year
8Activities / Results
- Cooperating with our colleagues at the University
of Genova in creating and organizing the
International Mediterranean Modeling
Multiconference I3M. - The first conference was held in Genoa last year.
- This years conference will be held in
Marseilles. - Cooperating with Pr. Tuncer Oren on the french
part of the French-English-Turkish MS dictionary
to be published soon. - Defining an MS terminological dictionary.
- Working on the development of a French MS course
as part of our MS curriculum development. - Working on formal integration and virtual
laboratories.
