What is Tlatelolco?

• An independent Aztec city
• Conquered by the Spaniard, Hernán Cortéz
• Now in ruins under México City.
• The image to the right is one of the oldest
  Spanish colonial churches, Santiago, located at
  Tlatelolco.

Who is Hernán Cortéz?

• He is a Spanish conquistador (conqueror)
• Arrived in the early 16th century to México.
• Conquered the Aztecs, destroyed their
  civilization, and wiped out much of the
  population.
• However, the Aztecs would not go down without a
  fight.

Who is Cuathoméc?

• An Aztec warrior.
• Was one of the key Aztec figures in the Aztec
  resistance against.
• However, the Spaniards captured him and ended
  Aztec resistance, thus ending their civilization.
