approach and departure path although a second
flight path provides an additional safety margin

preferred on approach and departure - Secondary flight paths will only be used when
necessary

14Safety Overview
- Eurocopter (EC135) helicopter twin engine
aircraft is considered to be one of the safest
helicopters ever built - The project will comply with safety standards
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National
Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Baltimore
City and State of Maryland - NTSB and FAA historical records indicate that
helipads have had a PERFECT safety record as it
relates to physical risk to any member of the
general public or anyone in the surrounding
community. - Agreement with YMCA as emergency landing site
- If weather conditions are such to pose a safety
or comfort issue, flights are canceled
15Future Purpose
- Support heart and hand trauma cases only
- One to five heart cases per week
- three hand trauma cases per month
- Union Memorial would not change its emergency
room designation with the State Remaining at a
Level 1 ER - A TRAUMA CENTER DISTINCTION WOULD
- NOT BE PURSUED

- Hearing date with Planning Commission
- March 8 or 22
- 11-12 month period before facility is operational
(Construction approximately 9 months)
