Title: Roundup Injury Study in Peach

Roundup Injury Studyin Peach
2
Background Information
  • Roundup is labeled on peaches.
  • However, growers are worried of potential injury.
  • Stories of Roundup drift that defoliated young
trees and showed up 1 year later, only adds to
    fear.

3
Purpose
  • I have sprayed suckers on young trees with
Roundup. Trees didnt die, but were stunted (see
    next slide).
  • However, repeated sprays on trunks of mature
    trees dont show any effect.
  • Therefore, purpose of this study was to evaluate
various Roundup rates when drenched on peach tree
    trunks.

4
Trunks of trees on left were sprayed with Roundup
in the spring. Trees on right were not sprayed.
Notice stunting and earlier fall colors.
5
Roundup Application
  • Tree trunks were sprayed (drenched till drip)
    with Roundup WeatherMax at 1, 2, 4, and 8 v/v
    solutions.
  • Up to 18 of tree trunks were sprayed on all
    sides
  • Low lying leaves and branches were not sprayed.
