and allies from academia and government studied
the local food system in order to identify
changes that could benefit health and the local
food economy

students in 3 middle schools (Science and
Practical Living classes) - Students completed 3-day diary and essay

- Insufficient amount and variety of fruits and
veg. - Fruit and veg. often fruit juice and fried
potatoes - High fast food and fried food consumption
- Eating alone very frequently
- Food is important to kids!!! They value the
social connections that surround it, taste and
choice and relate food to many facets of identity - Nutrition education and school based-research can
be conducted in a way that supports teachers core
content objectives and fosters life skills.
