SAFETY
  • The most basic value at stake in any emergency is
    life, especially human life. Safety begins with
    me.

Work Related Injuries Policy
  • Contact the Battalion Chief on Duty upon any
    injury for further protocol
  • May go hospital of choice when appropriate
  • Must fill out injury form at the fire rescue
    administration office within 24 business hours of
    incident/accident

Vehicle Accident
  • If you have an accident while driving any RCFRD
    apparatus you must
  • Contact BC on duty
  • Complete Accident report at admin office within
    24 business hours of accident

Driving Policy
  • Volunteer must be 21 years of age and have 2
    points or better in order to be eligible for
    insurance to drive vehicles.
  • Their must be memo in your personnel file
    indicating that your DMV record is suitable and
    you are eligible to drive.
  • Must take approved EVOC in order to drive
    emergency equipment in emergency capacity. VDFP
    or VAVRS are okay

Intoxicating Controlled Substances Policy
  • Prohibited for any personnel to be on fire
    rescue property while under the influence of
    intoxicating substances or controlled substance
    as defined in the Drug Control Act of VA.
  • Prohibited to consume Intoxicating Substance or
    other controlled substances while on FR property
  • Prohibited for any personnel to store
    intoxicating substances or C.S. on FR property.

Tobacco Products Policy
  • Use of any tobacco product is prohibited in any
    interior area of FR stations with the exception
    of bay areas.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to use tobacco
    products in approved areas
  • Tobacco is prohibited in County owned and county
    insured FR vehicles

Use of Respirators Policy
  • FR personnel who have a beard or facial hair at
    any point where the SCBA face-piece is designed
    to seal w/face, or hair that could interfere with
    the operation of the unit, shall not be permitted
    to use SCBA at emergency or non-emergency
    incidents including training exercises
    hazardous or potentially hazardous atmospheres.

  • FR personnel using SCBA shall not compromise the
    protective integrity of the SCBA for any reason
    when operating in IDLH atmospheres or in a
    atmosphere where the quality of air is unknown.

Protective Clothing Policy
  • It is the policy of this department to utilize
    protective clothing and equipment that at a
    minimum meets generally accepted standards for
    all personnel that are actively engaged in fire
    or rescue activities that require such attire

    and is highly recommended!

  • Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department is
    required by law to protect our patients health
    care information.
  • Do not share patient information unless
    authorized to do so.
  • Discussing patient information with others is not
    appropriate and against the law if you are not
    following this brochure.

Harassment Policy
  • All personnel have the right to work in a
    professional atmosphere that promotes equal
    employment/volunteer opportunities and prohibits
    discriminatory practices, including harassment
    based on race, color, religion, age, sex,
    national origin, disability, status as a veteran,
    or any other protected status.

Sexual Harassment
  • The County has an obligation to maintain a place
    of employment /volunteering that is free of
    harassing, abusive, or disruptive conduct. Sexual
    harassment constitutes discrimination, is illegal
    under federal and state laws and county policy,
    and will not be tolerated. The County is
    committed to taking positive corrective action
    where the need arises.
