Title: HELL

1
HELL
2
  • The Greatest hell Preacher of all times was the
  • Lord Jesus Christ while on earth He only
  • spoke once about Heaven in John 142 but He
  • spoke no less than 14 times in the Bible
  • describing hell.
  • There are 260 chapters in the New Testament
  • and hell / judgment are either referred to or
  • described some 234 times.
  • If we were on a highway 260 miles long and on
  • the highway there were 234 sign boards
  • warning of danger, surely we would have brains
  • enough to seek another road.

3
  • Once during a Christian Fellowship meeting on
  • the campus of a university, when some 80
  • brilliant law, medical and engineering students
  • were asked, How many of you have given
  • your hearts to Christ FOR the great Love of God?
  • Not a solitary hand went up!
  • How many of you know there is a hell and the
  • only way to flee it is through Lord Jesus
  • Christ?
  • And every hand went up!

4
WHY WE BELIEVE THERE IS A HELL
  • Firstly because Christ said so and He does not
    lie.
  • Second , would the Creator of all the Universe
come to the earth and let men spit on His face
and nail Him to a cross to save us from an
    imaginary place?

5
THOSE IN THE BIBLE WHO SPOKE ABOUT HELL
  • DAVID
  • Psa 1163 . . . cords of death entangled
  • me, . . . anguish of grave came upon me.
  • Psa 8613 . . . depths of the grave.
  • Psa 917 The wicked return to the
  • grave,
  • Psa 116 On the wicked He will rain fiery
  • coals and burning sulfur a scorching wind will
  • be their lot.

6
  • PAUL
  • He never mentions the word hell, as if it
  • seemed to awful to him
  • Philippians 319 Their destiny in
  • destruction.
  • I Thessalonians 53 . . . destruction will
  • come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a
  • pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

7
THERE IS MORE IN THE BIBLE ABOUT HELL THAN ABOUT
HEAVEN
  • I. Gnashing of teeth- Luke 1328
  • Gnashing of teeth speaks of great anger.
  • For many ages, ungodly had their own way of
  • persecuting and tormenting the Godly.
  • But when they see the Godly being welcomed
  • to Heaven and they themselves cast out they
  • will gnash teeth in an unending age.

8
  • II. . . .furnace of fire Mathew 1342
  • III. their worms that dont die. . . Mark
    948
  • Three times the Lord said the same thing
  • VI. . . . everlasting Fire Mathew 2541
  • V. Thirst Luke 1624
  • This is something man has been suffering
  • from, for the last 2000 years

9
THE WHOLE ISSUE OF ETERNITY RESTS UPON OUR
ATTITUDE TOWARDS ONE PERSON
  • Mathew 1028 Do not be afraid of those who
kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be
afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and
    body in hell.
  • Luke 125 But I will show you whom you should
fear Fear Him who, after the killing of the
body, has power to throw you in to hell. Yes I
    tell you, fear Him.

10
  • John 336 Whoever believes in the Son has
eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will
not see life, for Gods wrath remains on Him

11
  • We need to learn about hell so that
  • we can escape it ourselves
  • rescue others from it as well
  • Jesus was the greatest preacher on hell
  • of all the Bible teachers.
  • Therefore the only place to learn about
  • hell is through His Word

12
  • Mathew 522 . . . danger of the fire of
  • hell.
  • Mathew 1028 . . .destroy both body
  • and soul in hell
  • Mathew 1340- 42 .thrown into a fiery
  • furnace, where there will be weeping and
  • gnashing of teeth.
  • Mathew 2333- . . . condemned to hell

13
LUKE 16 19-31
  • 19There was a rich man dressed in purple and
  • fine linen and lived in luxury everyday. 20At his
  • gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered
  • with sores 21And longing to eat what fell from
  • the rich mans table. Even the dogs came and
  • licked his sores.
  • 22The time came when the beggar died and
  • the angels carried him to Abrahams side. The
  • rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell

14
  • where he was in torment, he looked up and
  • saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his
  • side. 24So he called him, Father Abraham,
  • have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the
  • tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
  • because I am in agony in this fire.
  • 25But Abraham replied, Son, remember that
  • in your lifetime you received your good
  • things, while Lazarus received bad things, but
  • now he is comforted here and you are in

15
  • agony. 26And besides all this, between us and
  • you a great chasm has been fixed, so that
  • those who want to go from here to you
  • cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there
  • to us.
  • 27He answered, then I beg you, father , send
  • Lazarus to my fathers house, 28for I have five
  • brothers. let him warn them, so that they will
  • not also come to this place of torment.

16
  • 29Abraham replied, They have Moses and
  • the Prophets let them listen to them.
  • 30 No, father Abraham, he said, but if
  • someone form the dead goes to them, they
  • will repent.
  • 31He said to him, If they do not listen to
  • Moses and the Prophets, they will not be
  • convinced even if someone rises from the
  • dead. "

17
POINTS TO PONDER
  • 1.Even if Lazarus rose again and came to the
  • rich mans brothers the brothers will laugh
  • saying hey you did not die in the first place!
  • Lord Jesus Christ rose again on the third day
  • and if people could not believe that, How can
  • they believe otherwise?
  • 2. Do not think the rich will go to hell and the
  • poor to heaven. Abraham was a rich man yet
  • he is in heaven. There are many poor people
  • too who are wicked.

18
  • 3. The rich man did not even give half a shekel!
  • He did not help Lazarus like put him in a
  • hospital or government home etc. He did not
  • use his riches for the extension of Gods
  • kingdom.
  • 4. No angels waiting for him even though his
  • picture may have hit the local papers with
  • condolences from big time managers of those
  • days!
  • 5. Lazarus believed in God, repented of his
  • sins and by faith became the son of Abraham

19
  • 6. Lazarus name was mentioned because he
  • was His sheep. And the Shepherd knows His
  • sheep.
  • 7.The rich man enjoyed daily. Good cloths,
  • food, the works.
  • 8. Certain rich men have plentiful for their
  • retirement, but
  • WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU LOSE YOUR SOUL TODAY???!!!
  • 9. There is no mention whether Lazarus even
  • had a burial

20
NAMES GIVEN TO HELL IN THE GODS WORD
  • 1. Sheol, Hades (Tartarus, Hades of Gehenna)
  • These are the original Bible words in Hebrew
  • and Greek
  • Luke 1623
  • 2. Fire When God speaks of Heaven, He calls
  • it Paradise, a City which has Foundations,
  • Golden Streets and Pearly Gates. When he
  • speaks of hell, its a furnace of fire and a
  • bottomless pit. Isaiah 3314

21
  • 3. Another name given to hell in the Word
  • is falling into the hands of God
  • Hebrews 1031
  • 4. Second death Revelations 2014
  • 5. Outer Darkness Mathew 812

22
HELL OF THE BIBLE IS NOT ANNIHILATION
  • I. There will be no annihilation, when we read
  • the cries of the damned
  • Luke 1624
  • Mathew 2213
  • II. Hell will not be total annihilation when we
  • consider that there will be different degrees of
  • suffering.
  • Mathew 1122

23
  • There are no stops between death and
  • hell.
  • Luke 1622,23 suggests Christians who
  • die go immediately to the happy presence
  • of God. When the thief on the cross died,
  • he went with Jesus to paradise according
  • to the promise of Jesus

24
  • Notice in Luke 2343, the torment of the rich
  • man mentioned here, took place during the life
  • time of his brothers not in the distant future.
  • When a lost man dies, he goes immediately to
  • hell and torment as fast as a saint goes to
  • paradise .
  • THIS IS THE PLAIN TEACHING OF THE WORD
  • Hell is a place of unbearable suffering as
  • indicated in Luke 1623,24

25
  • Five minutes in the lost world made this
  • godless man want to be a soul winning
  • preacher of the Gospel and an evangelist to his
  • family.
  • This man had never given the souls of his
  • brothers a thought in his lifetime but now all
  • he could think of is his brothers are lost and
  • heading for hell. He cannot save his own soul
  • but at least wanted to save his 5 brothers.

26
  • Five minutes in hell, rich man seemed to
  • have learned the following lessons.
  • He saw reality and finality of the place
  • called hell
  • He saw that all the arguments he had ever
  • heard against hell were utterly false and empty.
  • He saw that if a man shuts God out of his
  • heart in this life, God will shut the man out of
  • His heavenly home for eternity

27
  • He saw that the cardinal folly of a mans
  • existence is how he takes care of his body and
  • does nothing for his undying soul
  • He saw the urgent necessity of something
  • desperate ought to be done by believers on
  • earth to saved his unsaved brothers and that
  • something unusual must happen to save them

28
  • Lord Jesus Christ declared the reality of Hell.
  • Every unsaved man in the congregation, who
  • closes his eyes in death, opens them in hell
  • Consider the pain the rich man went through in
  • hell
  • a. He recognized Lazarus
  • b. He remembered his brothers
  • c. He remembered that he did not repent

29
  • d. He has same bodily desires he
  • wanted to cool his tongue
  • e. He did not have his body yet in hell,
  • but certainly retained his bodily senses
  • f. Remembering is one of the torments of hell

30
  • g. Suppose the rich man had died in Jesus
  • time that would mean for 2000 years he has
  • been remembering, that urged him to seek the
  • Lord
  • h. Physical bodies will go to hell
  • There will be a time when the unsaved will
  • come form hell and take up their bodies from
  • the earth or waters and stand for judgment and
  • then be cast forever into the lake of fire
  • Mathew 522

31
CONSIDER WHY THESE SPOKE SO PLAINLY ABOUT HELL?
  • Because it is all true Christ is a true and
    faithful witness
  • When Jesus appeared on the earth, He came with
love. He came to tell sinners of hell to scare
them from hell. Paul had not shunned to declare
    al the Counsel of God.

32
  • Because they were so full of love towards sinners
  • Mathew 2337
  • So it was with Paul II Corinthians 511
  • That they might be free form blood
  • guiltiness
  • Acts 2026

33
EVERYONE THAT IVE PREACHED TO TODAY, WILL BE
SENT EITHER TO HEAVEN OR HELL
  • Revelations 2011-15
  • 11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who
  • was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from His
  • presence, and there was no place for them.
  • 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing
  • before the throne, and books were opened.
  • Another book was opened, which is the book
  • of life. The dead were judged according to what

34
  • they had done as recorded in the books. 13The
  • sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death
  • and Hades gave up the dead that were in them
  • and each person was judged according to what
  • he had done. 14Then death and Hades were
  • thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is
  • the second death. 15If anybodys name was
  • not found written in the book of life, He was
  • thrown in of the lake of fire

35
  • John 317
  • For God did not send his Son into the
  • world to condemn the world, but to save
  • the world through Him
