1INTEGRATED YOG
2Yog is a science of Right living and intended to
be incorporated in daily life.
3THE SCOPE OF YOG It works on all aspects of
the person, the physical, vital, mental,
emotional, psychic and spiritual.
4MEANING OF YOG Yog means unity to become
one. It is derived from the Sanskrit word Yaj
which means to join. the union of the
individual consciousness with universal
consciousness
5THE AIM OF YOG Yog aims at bringing the
different bodily functions into perfect
coordination so that they work for good of the
whole body.
6There are many branches of Yog (some scriptures
describe 84 branches of yog) however main
practiced branches are Raj, Hatha, Gyana, Karma,
Bhakti, etc.
7ASHTANGA YOG Sage Patanjali was accredited to
the first treatise on comprehensive yog sutras
and codify the first definitive, unified and
comprehensive system of yog. This is known as
eight fold path i.e. Yama, Niyama, Asanas,
Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyan and
Samadhi.
8THE PHASES OF INITIATION The purpose of all
yog sadhanas are three folded and accordingly,
their modes of actions too are three phased.
9The first phase focuses at improvement of the
strength and healthy functioning of the gross
body. This aims at purifying the body from
within and harmonious conditioning of its
components followed by enhancing the vitality.
10The second phase deals with refinement and
charging of the subtle body pertaining to the
thought process, sagacity, foresightedness and
other intellectual and mental faculties.
11The Third phase corresponds to spiritual
transmutation of the astral body the core of
consciousness, sentiments, intrinsic values,
inspirations, devotional realizations,. etc.

Nirodhah
13ASHTANGA YOG Five yamas imply observance
of nonviolence, truth , chastity,
avoidance of avarice
possessive attitude.
14- Five niyamas correspond to -
- external and internal purity
- endurance and natural satisfaction
- ascetic refinement of personality
- self-analysis and enlightenment of mind by noble
thoughts - contemplation on divinity exiting within the self
and pervaded in the every being, every where in
Nature.
15The Yama-Niyama lay the foundation for gradual
refinement of the body and mind and devotional
illumination of consciousness.
16Asanas These harmonize the intra-body and
brain functions and help activation of the
otherwise dormant vital energy centers as one
progresses in the Yog.
17 Asanas are designed to fine-tune the sadhakas
body. They serve the dual purpose of physical
exercise and conditioning the internal
components of the body Asanas also help
focusing the agile mental tendencies and thus
condition the mind for greater concentration.
18Pranayama is an exercise of enhancing and
harmonizing the flow of prana (vital energy)
within the body through controlled breathing and
concentration.
19Pratyahara implies requital of evil
tendencies. It deals with continuous watch and
struggle in the domain of mind to prevent
untoward thoughts and check out immoral
instincts. Purity and strength of the inner self
and strong willpower are key factors for
success.
20Dharana corresponds to refinement of
conviction and faith and linking them with the
deeper layers of serene sentiments. Belief in
the eternal power and absolute justice GOD and
sincere devotion and respect for his presence in
every living being, every thing lay the
foundation for the progress of dharana followed
by dhyan
21Dhyan or Mediation is spiritual bath in the
ocean of divinely pure thoughts.
22Samadhi Is considered the highest state of yog
when the sadhaks consciousness becomes one with
the Universal Consciousness
