    system

11
Questions and Answers
  • Q. Can you provide guidance on when the
requirement for a special seating device may
qualify a student for weighted funding?
  • A. Medical equipment is defined as a specific
device that meets the unique needs of the child
and is specifically described on the childs IEP.

12
Unweighted

Questions and Answers
  • Q. The doctor says my child needs an
air-conditioned environment how can I get the
district to provide him a bus with this
    requirement?
  • A. The Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
department needs to write an Individual Education
Plan (IEP) describing the doctors request for
your son and provide this document to the school
    transportation office.

17
Questions and Answers
  • Q. My home address is less than two miles from my
assigned school and the district doesnt provide
my child school bus transportation, why?
  • A. In Florida there is a two mile walk limit,
meaning the child can walk to school and the
district is not required to provide
    transportation.

18
Reporting Requirements

20
Questions and Answers
  • Q. My child attends a middle school that has 6th
thru 8th grade classes. The district said she
doesnt qualify for hazardous walking, why not?
  • A. The statute only allows students in elementary
school thru grade sixth to qualify for hazardous
    walking, not middle school students.

21

of the fiscal year (July 1) to the beginning of

    the fiscal year (June 30).

25
Questions and Answers
  • Q. Why is our funding grouped all together with
    charter schools in our district?
  • A. This is done because the formula was not
designed to separate funding for differing
schools within the district. All are considered
    public schools.

26
Questions and Answers
  • Q. I live in a school district where my children
ride the metro rail transportation to school.
Can the school district count my children for
    transportation funding?
  • A. Yes. The district can claim these students
    under Category (G) General purpose
    transportation.
