Health Care

• Current Activities
• USAID continues primary health care training of

  primary and preventive care, especially for women
  and children
• The Public Health Division of the Ministry of
  Health is conducting a Measles, Mumps, and
  Rubella (MMR) immunization campaign in the Basra
  area for children (6 - 12 years of age)
• USAID is working with MoH to develop a strategic
  plan to reduce child mortality and increase
  preventative care

Economics

• Building Financial Markets
• The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) authorized two new
  private banks that will open headquarters
  branches in Baghdad in early Apr North Bank and
  Industrial Union Investment Bank
• As of 24 Mar, the Trade Bank of Iraq has issued
  123 letters of credit, totaling 516 million,
  covering imports from 24 countries
• New Iraqi Dinar (NID) has been stable the past
  month and a half. Settlement price has been
  around 1,425 dinars per dollar
• The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Iraq, compiled
  by the Ministry of Planning, increased by 27.9
  percent over the year to Feb 04
• Other Developments
• CPA Administrator signed the 2004 revised budget
  (19.9 billion) and sent the approved budget to
  the Minister of Finance for execution
• As of 25 Mar, the DFI balance was 7.3 billion
  (payments out of the DFI amounted to 7 billion)
