12Double Scored Writing
- MME Social Studies Rubric
- Same social studies prompt as used in past
- Scored using MME Social Studies Rubric (same 5pt
rubric as used in the past) - MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
- MME Persuasive Writing Rubric (6pt rubric
designed by OEAA for the MME)
13Rubrics
- Students will have in their MME social studies
test booklets - Only the 6pt score criteria of the MME Persuasive
Writing Rubric, and - Only the 5pt score criteria of the MME Social
Studies Rubric
In other words, in the test booklet students will
only see the top score criteria of each rubric
and not all the score criteria of each
rubric. However, during evaluation all the score
criteria of each rubric will be used to score the
same written response.
14How much time will be allowed for the
double-scored-writing?
- As of now, the double-scored-writing will be
timed. - Students have 50 minutes to complete each part
- Each part contains multiple choice items and one
Civic Writing item - One Civic Writing item impacts the students MME
score - The other Civic Writing item is evaluated as a
field test item. - The writing on day one of ACT portion of the MME
is also a timed test.
15Comparing Rubrics
- MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
MME Social Studies Rubric
?
Following is a comparison of the criteria to earn
the maximum points for each rubric.
16Comparison
MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
MME Social Studies Rubric
- A clear and supported statement of a position.
- The essay takes a position on the issue in the
prompt, shows clear understanding of that issue,
and maintains focus across the response.
17Comparison
MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
MME Social Studies Rubric
- Position is supported by
- A Core Democratic Value
- Supporting social studies knowledge
- Information from the Data Section.
- Position is supported thoroughly and consistently
with specific, logical reasons and/or examples.
18Comparison
MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
MME Social Studies Rubric
- A credible argument that someone with the
opposite point of view could use and an
explanation that reveals the flaw in his or her
argument.
- The response may demonstrate insight and
complexity by evaluating various implications of
the position and/or by responding to arguments
that differ from the writers position.
19Comparison
MME Persuasive Writing Rubric
MME Social Studies Rubric
- Organization is well controlled, with a logical
sequence of reasons and strong transitions and
relationships among reasons. The essay shows a
good command of varied, precise language that
supports meaning. Few, if any, errors distract
the reader.
20 Analysis
- Advantages
- Fewer extended writing pieces (which in the past
contributed to test fatigue) - Including writing technique should improve the
quality of persuasive civic writing.
21Double Scoring MME Spring 2007
- All 11th grade students 2007
- Seniors completing a retake in 2007 will take the
Social Studies MEAP and not the Michigan Social
Studies component of the MME and thus, double
scoring does not apply - All students in 2008
- Seniors completing a retake in 2008 will take the
Michigan Social Studies component of the MME
