Types of Motion Capture

• Inside-in
• Inside-out
• Outside-in

Inside-in

• Sensors and Sources on the body
• Good for small body parts such as fingers
• Does not capture joint-axis rotation
• Does not provide 3D-World based information

Outside-in

• External sources and Internal Sensors
• Good at capturing 3D-world based information
• Can measure joint-axis rotation
• Not good for small body parts
• Sensors may move due to muscle or skin movement

Outside-In

• External sensors and internal sources
• Suffers from occlusion
• Occlusion makes it hard to capture small body
  parts
• Requires high frame rate video cameras
• Most common type used in movies and video games
