Happy Holidays! Go Buckeyes! Chomp the Gators!
AFROTC Det 645 Alumni Society News and Notes
Presidents Annual Message- I would like to thank
everyone for another great year. Over the last
12 months, we had two successful tailgates,
supported the annual Career Day, awarded a
scholarship, saw the return of the Triservice
Parade to the Oval, had a the ground breaking
for Remembrance Park and welcomed 18 new 2Lts
into our fold. We also saw modest membership
growth and we are in the black financially. On
to 2007! We need to continue to grow in size and
participation. There are over 1500 AFROTC alumni
on the OSU roles, but we are only in touch with
at most 200. Each year we ask for annual dues
during our football tailgate sign up, we get some
response but some people forget. If you do the
math, we should be well on the way to endowing
several scholarships instead of funding one out
of our operating capital. This year, we need to
make a better effort to get in touch with our
alumni. Spread the word and reference our
Website. It may be dated sometimes, but we are
trying to update it regularly. The second push
is to get more participation from local alums.
Our current officers are in their second year and
some are ready to PCS. We need new blood to
provide direction. If you are interested e-mail
me, I would love to have the opportunity to
discuss the rewards of being involved with the
Alumni Society. Our next full meeting will be in
March/April, after the football ticket allocation
is known. We will advertise on the website to
see you there or hear from you. Go
Bucks!! PS Let me know if you are going
to Glendale, we want to get a group
picture if possible! Jim
Allshouse AFROTC Det 645 Alumni Society President

State of Det 645 Update - Autumn 06 proved to a
very busy quarter for the cadet wing. The
quarter started with 150 cadets consisting of
nearly 60 new cadets. We also welcomed back one
of our most successful class of Field Training
graduates with seven Distinguished Graduates and
eighteen placing in the top third of their
flights. Aside from meeting AFROTC objectives
during Leadership Laboratory, the cadet wing
participated in such events as a Joint Service
Warrior Run, a Joint Service Blood Drive (73
units collected 33 more than last), the annual
Rock ceremony, and the Ground Breaking ceremony
for Remembrance Park. Autumn 06s Career Day
proved very successful with over 28 different
officers representing several career fields in
attendance. Physical Fitness proved to be a great
motivator to cadets as they were successful in
achieving an overall average of 89.54 on their
Physical Fitness Test (PFT). During the quarter
we had several fun events such as High Ropes
Confidence Course, Paintballing, and of course
the Tailgate parties before each home
game. Detailed plans are in place and ready for
Winter 07 as cadets return from break on 3 Jan.
We will kick off the quarter with a briefing of
our plan to begin preparing cadets who will be
attending Field Training during Summer 2007.
Planning is underway for the Dining Out scheduled
for 17 Feb with our guest speaker Major General
Chris Anzalone, USAF (Deputy for Test,
Integration, and Fielding of the Ballistic
Missile Defense Program). We have several cadets
attending AFROTC sponsored events to include the
AFROTC Marshall / Arnold 5 Star seminar in
Washington D.C., the Air Force Reserve Officer
Association seminar in Washington D.C., and the
14th Annual National Character and Leadership
Symposium at the USAF Academy. In addition, the
Det 645 Centurion Drill team will be competing in
a Drill competition at USC in Los Angeles during
this quarter. While Ohio winters may be cloudy
and cold, the Det 645 cadets will surely have
many opportunities to keep them active.
OSU Remembrance Park - The ground breaking was
held on November 9, with our own treasurer, Jerry
Vance, as the host and speakers included
President Holbrook, Archie Griffin, Jim Foster -
Womens basketball coach and a Vietnam vet, and Lt
Col Todd Miller Army ROTC. People can donate to
the funding of the park in two ways (1) go to
www.giveto.osu.com click on Online giving and in
the dropdown box scroll down to Remembrance Park
or (2) buy a brick to honor a veteran or the
military by going to http//buckeyealumni.com/alum
ni/index.htm. The bricks are 100 and will go
along the walks in Remembrance Park. The park is
just south of the ROTC building, Converse Hall.
Call for Alumni Updates - Have you recently
moved, been promoted, or changed your email
address? It is vital that the Det 645 Alumni
Society keeps an up-to-date database of our
members in order to pass on news, updates, and
other information. Updates can be emailed to
girard.2_at_osu.edu or mailed to Det 645 Alumni
Society, 2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH
43210.
