Stars and constellations

History
  • Stars start out as defused gas clouds and dust
    drifting through space.
  • The force of gravity slowly pulls these clouds
    closer together.
  • If the clump is large enough pressure caused by
gravity inside a protostars begins to generate
    heat.
  • The heat and pressure builds until nuclear fusion
reactions begins to take place in the core.
  • The force of gravity pulls the hydrogen atoms
    together.
  • Smashing and fusing them into heavier helium
    atoms.
  • The process generates an enormous amount of
    energy and the star ignites.
  • Entering its main sequence our star, the sun is
in this stage right about now, half way through
its ten billion year long life.
  • Eventually our sun will use up all of its
    hydrogen.
  • At this point the suns core will expand,
ballooning to many times its current size right
    now.
  • Stars that are in this stage of their lives are
called Red Giants. theyre called Red Giants
because their surface cools and turns red.
    Theyre also huge!
  • The star is now burning helium, fusing it into
    even heavier elements.
  • Since these reactions arent nearly as powerful
as burning hydrogen the star will begin to
collapse after about ten million years.

  • There are at least sixty-five different types of
    constellations.

  • The suns radius is about four thousand three
    hundred and two miles.
