  • Wind speed 1800 kph
  • Saturn is the sixth planet from our Sun.
  • It is called the 'jewel of the solar system'
    because of its beautiful rings.
  • It is made up mostly of gas, including hydrogen,
    helium and methane. It doesn't have a solid
    surface.

  • 1,300,000,000 Average distance between Saturn
    and Earth.
  • These super-fast winds, combined with heat rising
    from within the planet's interior, cause the
    yellow and gold bands visible in the atmosphere.
  • The rings are believe to be pieces of comets,
    asteroids or shattered moons that broke up before
    they reached the planet. Each ring orbits at a
    different speed around the planet.

  • Responsible for keeping earth and other planets
    orbiting the sun
  • Gravity is a force pulling together all matter
    (which is anything you can physically touch).

  • When you jump on earth- gravity pulls you back
    down
  • How strong the gravity depends on the size of the
    planet
  • MOON is smaller than earth- less gravity
  • Pull of gravity on the moon is weaker cant
    walk on the moon you float

RULE
  • All objects will fall at the same speed
  • Exceptions to the rule some objects are affected
    by air resistance (feather, paper)
  • If you drop two items that are heavy and compact
    enough to reduce the effect of air resistance
    they will hit the ground at the same time!

PENNY ACTIVITY
  • Have a student stand with a penny on his shoe
  • Lift him slightly off the ground and drop him.
  • What will happen to the penny?

PENNY CONCLUSION
  • Penny and student fall at the same speed
  • Penny will not lift off the shoe and float
  • (thats why you do not lift off the ground in an
    ELEVATOR!!)

  • We drink milk to strengthen our bones
  • Our entire weight on earth is supported by our
    feet
  • In space no bones support the other
  • Astronauts lose 100mg of calcium a day
  • Brain received messages from the weight bearing
    bones to produce more calcium
  • In space no weight bearing- decrease in calcium
    production

Problems with loss of Calcium
  • Brittle bones
  • Osteoporosis
  • Kidney stones
  • Takes a long time after the mission to replace
    loss calcium supplies

Mass versus Weight
  • MASS how much matter there is in something.
  • WEIGHT weight is determined by how much
    something is pulled by gravity.
  • The Mass of an object doesn't change when an
    object's location changes.
  • Weight, on the other hand does change with
    location.

  • In one sense weight is about feeling the force of
    gravity pushing us against the surface of our
    chairs and floors.
  • Mass is just the number of particles that make us
    up.

  • If we compared two things- they are pulled the
    same by gravity and so the one with more mass
    weighs more.

    have almost no weight.
