2Japan's Samurai Era
Japans Samurai Era began when Minamoto Yoritomo
came to rule in 1185. Since then a military
dictatorship has been in Japan until 1853.
3 The Samurai
Samurai were fierce warriors. They were trained
to fight and defend their country under all means
necessary. Their main weapon was either a sword,
a unique weapon invented by the Japanese, or a
bow and arrow. They may either be in armor or
kimono, on horseback or on foot, everyone knew
the image of the samurai. Not only are they
taught to fight but to be good, polite and not to
dishonor your fellow samurai or country. Another
big thing is, that not only were men allowed to
be samurais, women could also become samurais as
well.
4 The Shogun The shogun was at the top
of the power structure, making him the ruler of
Japan. The shogun was to command his samurai
warriors in battle and rule over Japan. In 1867,
the shogun lost power and the emperor regained
its power over Japan. Thought the shogun did not
rule over Japan for so long. The shoguns helped
made Japan stronger and win wars.
5 The Daimyo The daimyo was the feudal
lord in Japans samurai era. They had land and
samurais who would protect it. The daimyos would
occasionally get into fights, making their
samurai fight another daimyos samurai. These
little wars were usually just to gained more land
and samurai. These higher ranking samurais
usually will go to war with their shogun.
