• There are almost 2,000 Newham Fit Club members.
  Over 100 of these are people with disabilities
  (5.2) which have doubled in the last 6 months.
• 52 of Newham Fit Club members are from the
  lowest socio-economic group. A target group which
  is at risk as those in lower class jobs and poor
  households are less likely to be active than
  those in non-poor households (Newham Household
  Panel Wave 3)
• The activities offered have attracted a high
  proportion of females (70). In the last six
  months female memberships have almost quadrupled.
  This is attracting a section of the community
  which Healthy Living Sports tries to engage in
  its new programmes, as the current sports
  programmes target a high ratio of young males
  with the aim lowering youth crime.
• The Senior Swims programme has been extremely
  successful, and was extended for 3 months. The
  number of participants has almost doubled in the
  last six months (Oct05-April06) to 1314. There
  have been almost 200 attendances a week by
  seniors accessing Free Swims at Newhams leisure
  centre through Newham Fit Club.
• There are almost 400 Newham Council staff members
  who have joined the Wellbeing at Work programme
  (November 2005). Salsa and fitness walks are the
  most popular activities consisting of 45 and 22
  of the attendances respectively.
