Project Goals Timeline

• To develop a 3 year project to train future
  teachers to use the palm pilot in their
  classrooms.
• Timeline
• 2004-2005 Meet and learn how to use the pp in
  lesson planning, curriculum strategies, and data
  collection.
• 2005-2006 Teach pre-service teachers to use the
  pps in classrooms in the Moderate and Severe
  Block Classes
• 2006-2007 Follow up with the student teachers
  on how they are using the palm pilots in their
  classrooms.

Highlights of 2004-2005

• Each member mastered use of PDA for personal use
  as planner, calendar, alarm, address book, and to
  transfer information.
• Students enrolled in Spring 2005 EXED Cohort
  received professional development in the use of
  the palm pilot and other assistive technology
  instructional media.

• Students enrolled in Fall 2004 and Spring 2005
  Introductory Exceptional Ed course read the
  article, I have a palm in my pocket, (Bauer
  Ulrich) in Friends (2004) Special Education
  Contemporary Perspectives for School
  Professionals.

• The article focuses on user friendly instruments
  that can be used in the inclusive classroom.
• Students in the class brought pdas and
  demonstrated uses of pdas to support peers with
  disabilities
• Beaming assignments and notes
• Messages and prompts
• Monitoring behavior
• Reminder for medication

Current Year Goals (05-06)

• PDAs will be used with the Exceptional Education
  Moderate/Severe Cohort of students
• Opportunities will be provided for students to
  practice using pdas for documenting medication
  schedules and data collection for academic and
  behavioral interventions.
• Field based practicum observations will be
  recorded using file maker pro and file maker
  mobile using a developed data base of best
  teaching practices.

• Training will be provided to students in the
  Spring 2006 cohort.
• Spring 2006 Student Teachers will include use of
  pda and other media in their teacher work sample.

Third Year Goals (06-07)

• Follow up with student teachers in their current
  positions for survey on their use of pdas and
  other technology.
• Group members will learn through ongoing
  professional development additional uses of pda
  for instruction.
