3CHILDREN MISSING EDUCATION
- DfES Target Strategic Framework Document (2002)
- By 2005 ensure that the robust multi agency
systems are in place in each local authority to
identify, track children missing from education
or at risk of doing so. - Recommendations of the Laming Inquiry Re
Victoria Climbié - Lord Laming (2003) recommended that
- Front line staff in all agencies, which
regularly come into contact with children and
families take basic details the name of the
childs school if of compulsory school age any
gaps in such information should be passed to the
relevant authority - Para 17.97

5Children Missing Education Policy This guidance
is intended to inform all agencies in order
to identify, maintain contact and re-engage
children living in Bedfordshire that are missing
education identify and maintain contact with
children that are living in Bedfordshire at risk
of missing education track children that move
out of Bedfordshire until such a time as they are
known elsewhere.
6- The Children Missing Education policy relates to
all children and young people who are - not on a school roll or being educated otherwise
- registered at school but, have not attended
school or an alternative education provision for
four weeks or more - registered at school but their family has moved
without providing a forwarding address or details
of a new school.
7- Children and young people go missing from school
for a wide variety of reasons. These can include - failing to start appropriate provision and hence
never entering the system - ceasing to attend, due to exclusion (e.g. illegal
unofficial exclusion) or withdrawal - failing to complete a transition between
providers (e.g. being unable to find a suitable
school place after moving to a new local
authority area).

to EWO - Child/family missing school investigates. If
not found after 10 days absence - refer to EWO - Child leaves your school complete Removal from
Roll form, send to EWO
