Trig - Do Now

• Get a ruler and a protractor from the side of the
  room
• Get a sheet of graph paper from the teachers
  desk
• Get a circle handout as well
• Move your desk next to someone else

• 4.1 The Graphs of Sine and Cosine
• The Graph of Sine (How can we graph how far we
  are off the ground if we are on a ferris wheel?)
• The Graph of Cosine (How can we graph how far we
  are horizontally from the center of the ferris
  wheel?)

Graphing Sine

• Starting at 0 degrees, use your ruler and
  protractor to mark off 10 degree increments on
  the circle from 0 to 180 degrees

Then create right triangles for every increment
Etc.

• Now, determine sine by dividing the height by the
  hypotenuse for each right triangle. Round your
  answers to the nearest hundredth

• Graph sine on your graph paper.
• Hold it landscape
• Place your y-axis near the left hand side.
• Your x-axis increments should be 10 degrees from
  0 to 360 degrees
• Your y-axis increments should be 0.1 going up to
  1.0 and down to -1.0

• Use your understanding of symmetry to complete
  the graph of sine from 180 to 360 degrees.

• What will cosine represent?
• Now, graph cosine on the same graph paper

• Complete what we did in class today (the graphs
  of sine and cosine (one per pair))
