Hague Agreement - main points
  • A TEL service will be set up following the
    completion of this Accompanying Measure
  • The major impetus for TEL is not based on market
    considerations, but is political - ie fulfilling
    cultural role in a united Europe
  • TEL should be set up under the aegis of CENL
  • GABRIEL and TEL should be integrated at the
    service level

Hague Agreement - specifics
  • Authentication and Multi-lingual searching will
    not be available at launch
  • The availability of legal deposit material will
    be very limited real potential is in digitised
    heritage material and licensed material
  • All title-level metadata will be provided free to
    TEL by the contributing partners

  • It would be difficult to maintain a distinction
    between GABRIEL and TEL at the service level.
    Irrespective of any technical developments,
    GABRIEL and TEL should be integrated at the
    service level

  • TELService offers integrated discovery of and
    access to the collections, products and services
    of European national libraries. It is aimed at
    users world-wide who want a powerful and easy way
    of finding European cultural resources.
    TELService displays the richness and diversity of
    European culture through cooperation in
    innovation.

    information about Europe's National Libraries,
    their collections and their services in order to
    facilitate access to them, and to foster the
    development of new services based on a shared
