Your assignment
You are a Geography Research Assistant for the
State Department
You and a colleague must research a country and
write a report on your findings.
This report will prepare Secretary of State, Dr.
Condoleezza Rice, for her visit to this country
in May.

Your research will also be made available to
other departments of the government, for example
the U.S. Trade Commission and the U.S. Diplomatic
Corps, as they consider our foreign policy and
trade policy with the region.

How to Research

• Be organized
• Break down the assignment into parts for each
  person to research.
• Write down who is doing what.
• Be curious
• Search the internet to find out about your topic
• Find answers to specific questions from the
  assignment
• Find answers to questions of your own.
• Be smart
• Take notes
• Include citations for websites and pictures used
• Keep track of your time and try to be efficient

How to Be an Effective Partner

• Communicate clearly
• Discuss the results of your research. Make sure
  each member is aware of the other members
  findings.
• Provide constructive feedback determine where
  and when you need to find out more information.

• Refine your research Go back to your sources and
  answer questions raised in your meeting.
• Collaborate with partner to find more
  information, websites, pictures.
• Avoid redundant information.
• Make comparisons.

Prepare Your Report

• Each partner types a portion of the report.
• One partner combines written work to create a
  final and complete draft of the report.
• Each partner proofreads the report and confirms
  the accuracy of the text, citations, and pictures.

Present Your Findings

• Meet with Dr. Rice in Conference Room A to
  present your findings.
• Be prepared to answer any questions she may have.
• Your meeting with be televised live on C-Span.
