Curves cutting the x and y axis. Worked Example
- Find the points where the curve y 7x 3
cuts the x and y axis. Solution- The curve cuts
the y axis when x 0.
So y 70 3 1 3 -2 i.e. at the
point (0, -2) The curve cuts
the x axis when y 0.
So 0 7x 3 i.e. 7x 3 Taking
log10 of both sides gives log7x log3 i.e.
xlog7 log3 which gives 1.77 so it cuts
the axis at the point (1.77, 0)
