Introduction toRapid Insight AnalyticsBasic
Training
A Presentation toDr. Virginia Carson, Vice
President for Academic Affairs, GHC
  • Presenter Ms. Tripti Devkota
  • Institutional Research Assessment Systems
    Analyst
  • Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning
    Research
  • GEORGIA HIGHLANDS COLLEGE
  • Dr. Fitzpatrick U. Anyanwu, Director

2
Topics to be covered
  • What is Rapid Insight Analytics
  • Extracting/Importing Data Into Rapid Insights
  • Creating an Analysis
  • Control Panel
  • The Variable Statistics Window
  • Analyzing Data
  • Univariate Analysis
  • Rapid Insight Reports Reporting
  • Summary Conclusion

3
Extracting and Importing Data Into Rapid Insight
  • Data can be extracted directly or indirectly as
    follows
  •
  • 1) Direct connection to a database.
  • 2) Offsite extraction from a database and into
    Rapid Insight (Excel, etc).
  • 3) Creating Text Data Files.

4
Creating an Analysis
  • An analysis can be opened in three steps
  •
  • 1) Click on the open dataset button.
  • 2) Next, click on the green button that says
    load variables.
  • 3) Click on the green button that says create
    analysis.

5
Control Panel
  • Choose a Y variable
  • Set filters
  • Change Variable Types
  • Change model availability
  • Set outlier caps

6
Showing Variable Statistics
  • The variable statistics window shows statistics
for each of the numeric variables in the dataset
  • Calculates the mean, standard deviation, minimum
value, maximum value, coefficient of variation,
number of missings, number of observations, and
    the range of each variable

7
Analyzing Data
  • A view of entire dataset
  • Sort
  • Aggregate

8
Univariate Analysis
  • The distribution of any variable in the dataset
  • Categorical the counts/percentages for each of
    the categories of that variable
  • Continuous numeric software will create bins by
taking the variables highest and lowest value and
splitting the data into ranges based on high/low
    values

9
Rapid Insight Reports Reporting
  • Any graphs, charts or analyses can be captured
  • Can be exported to PowerPoint presentation or a
    Rapid Insight Report

10
Summary Conclusion
  • Extracting/Importing Data Into Rapid Insights
  • Creating an Analysis
  • Control Panel
  • The Variable Statistics Window
  • Analyzing Data
  • Univariate Analysis
  • Rapid Insight Reports Reporting
  • Summary Conclusion
