Pathloss model for TG4 in support of TG4a range
comparison. Abstract This document provides a
pathloss model to be used to determine TG4 device
ranges for use in comparing proposals for
TG4a. Purpose This document is provided in
support of TG4a activities. Notice This document

3Propagation pathloss model description
- Model provides for free-space propagation (1/r2)
in a near-zone propagation and far-zone
propagation as 1/r?. - Model provides for a breakpoint, dt, between
near-zone and far-zone. - Model can be used for both narrow-band and
wide-band applications. - With suitable definition of dt , model can be
used for both indoor and two-ray propagation.
4Model
- PL(d ) -10logc/(4p d fm)2 1-exp(-(dt
/d)(g-2)), - where
- PL pathloss,
- d distance between transmitter and receiver,
- fm geometric mean of transmitted frequency
band, - g propagation constant after breakpoint,
- c velocity of propagation,
- and
- dt breakpoint distance from transmitter.
5Indoor Parameters
- dt is physically defined by the environment, as
it represents the distance of the first
scatterers from the transmitter suggested indoor
office value is 3m (???) - In an indoor environment ,the suggested value for
g is 3.3 (??)
6Outdoor Parameters
- Outdoors, a two-ray model (propagation over a
ground plane) is appropriate - Suggested parameters
- dth1h24pfm/c and g4,
- where
- h1 and h2 are the transmit and receive antenna
heights (in meters) above the ground plane.
